Special Collections and University Archives Legacy Finding Aids: All Items
George Kell Reid, Jr., a longtime Florida resident, inspired many students to enter the field of marine biology. For over two decades, he taught students at Florida Presbyterian College (now Eckerd College). This collection of research articles, unpublished seminar papers, and notes record Reid's strong interest in the limnology of Lake Maggiore and marine life in Boca Ciega Bay and other estuarine environments along the Pinellas peninsula. These materials, donated in March 2003 by Dr. John G. Schwede, contain no access restrictions.

Nebraska Native American Geospatial Summit
The NASA Nebraska Space Grant (NSGC) & EPSCoR Programs at the University of Nebraska at Omaha have embarked on a unique educational journey. This journey, known as the Native American Outreach program has been a highly successful endeavor since its inception five years ago. The Native American Outreach Program’s main objective is to make Native American students more competitive in mathematics and science. This program is the most comprehensive Native American program of any state and has allowed for a variety of activities to take place including: regional and national presentations; interfacing between schools; and formulating administrative leadership conferences. Chemistry and Biochemistry
The present invention provides a new process for the preparation of 2S,3S-N-isobutyl-N-(2-hydroxy-3-amino-4phenylbutyl)- p-nitrobenzenesulfonylamide hydrochloride, wherein this compound is prepared directly from the chloromethylalcohol. Importantly, the process of the present invention results in higher yields of 2S,3S-N-isobutyl-N-(2hydroxy -3 -amino -4-phenylbutyl) -pnitrobenzenesulfonylamide hydrochloride without sacrificing its purity. The processes of the present inventin can be used to prepare not only the 2S,3S-derivative, but also the 2R,3S-, 2S,2R- and the 2R,3R-derivatives.

Mammalian blastocyst formation is dependent on establishment of trophectoderm (TE) ion and fluid transport mechanisms. We have examined the expression and function of aquaporin (AQP) water channels during murine preimplantation development. AQP 3, 8, and 9 proteins demonstrated cell margin-associated staining starting at the 8-cell (AQP 9) or compacted morula (AQP 3 and 8) stages. In blastocysts, AQP 3 and 8 were detected in the basolateral membrane domains of the trophectoderm, while AQP3 was also observed in cell margins of all inner cell mass (ICM) cells. In contrast, AQP 9 was predominantly observed within the apical membrane domains of the …

Mammalian Erv46 Localizes To The Endoplasmic Reticulum–Golgi Intermediate Compartment And To Cis-Golgi Cisternae, Lelio Orci, Mariella Ravazzola, Gary J. Mack, Charles Barlowe, Stefan Otte
Dartmouth Scholarship
Yeast endoplasmic reticulum (ER) vesicle protein Erv46p is a novel membrane protein involved in transport through the early secretory pathway. Investigation of mammalian Erv46 (mErv46) reveals that it is broadly expressed in tissues and protein-secreting cells. By immunofluorescence microscopy, mErv46 displays a crescent-shaped perinuclear staining pattern that is characteristic of the Golgi complex. Quantitative immunoelectron microscopy indicates that mErv46 is restricted to the cis face of the Golgi apparatus and to vesicular tubular structures between the transitional ER and cis-Golgi. Minor amounts of mErv46 reside in ER membranes and later Golgi cisternae. On Brefeldin A treatment, mErv46 redistributes to punctate …
