Spider And Leafhopper (Erythroneura Spp.) Response To Vineyard Ground Cover, Michael J. Costello, Kent M. Daane

Horticulture and Crop Science

Ground cover is used in some vineyards to improve soil structure and help manage insect pests; previous studies have shown lower leafhopper (Erythroneura spp.) densities on vines grown with ground cover. We undertook a 2-yr study to determine why ground cover is associated with reduced leafhopper densities. Ground cover consisted of a fall-planted cover crop of purple vetch (Vicia benghalensis) and barley (Hordeum vulgare), which senesced in May and was replaced by a complex of resident vegetation comprised primarily of the grasses Echinochloa spp., Digitaria sanguinalis, and Setaria spp., as well as common knotweed …

The common law speaks to us in parables. Ours is Drummond v. Fulton County Department of Family and Children's Services. Just before Christmas 1973, a boy named Timmy was born to a white mother and a black father. A month later, his mother was declared unfit, and the Department of Family and Children's Services placed Timmy with white foster partents - Robert and Mildred Drummond. Then the Drummonds asked to adopt Timmy.

During the past several years, crop models have successfully been used to test the hypothesis that water stress is the primary factor that causes spatial yield variability in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] fields. However, there have been few attempts to validate this hypothesis through direct temporal and spatial measurements of water stress during the season. Recently, a technique has been developed to relate plant tissue 13C levels to the temporal water stress experienced by soybean plants. The enormous taxonomic scope of the Flora Malesiana Project is exacerbated by the extremely short supply of trained researchers and taxonomic experts available to undertake this task. The vast number of indigenous botanical experts resident in Malesia represents a potentially valuable, yet largely unrecognised and untapped, resource. By engaging in collaborative research with indigenous parataxonomists, Flora Malesiana researchers can develop field methodologies that enable a more comprehensive and accurate assessment of the botanical resources of the region while simultaneously enrolling local communities in the sustainable, long-term conservation of native biocultural diversity. Immunizations represent both basic clinical care as well as an essential public health activity with population-wide health implications, and for a number of reasons, the focus on national immunization policy has intensified in recent years. Insurers and employee health plans may cover immunization services as a matter of benefit design choice. Federal and state insurance laws also may mandate coverage of one or more classes of immunization services. For approximately 100 million persons who are members of state-regulated health insurance plans, state law plays a primary role in determining coverage. The quality of drinking water obtained from private wells in New Hampshire is not regulated; consequently, private wells are often not sampled for arsenic unless individual well owners choose to do so. Resource management technical reports

This report describes the soils, hydrology, natural vegetation and farming systems of the East Mortlock catchment and provides information on the threats to agriculture, infrastructure and natural resources caused by land degradation. East Mortlock covers over 800,000 hectares in the central wheatbelt. Rapid Catchment Appraisal aims to document salinity risk and management options by addressing all threats to the natural resource base, rather than isolating salinity as a separate issue.
