B.A.B.E.S. Implementation And Its Relationship To Locus Of Control And Self-Concept, Dana M. Collins
B.A.B.E.S. Implementation And Its Relationship To Locus Of Control And Self-Concept, Dana M. Collins
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the administration of the B.A.B.E.S. Program and locus of control as well as awareness of self-concept of 2nd grade students. A total of 161 students were given pre- and post-tests composed of questions geared to understand each child's locus of control and awareness of self-concept before and after the implementation of the B.A.B.E.S. Program. A paired-samples t-test was administered to determine the correlation between the pre-test scores and the post-test scores. Analysis determined that the administration of the B.A.B.E.S. Program did not internalize locus of control nor did …

The Relationship Between Parental Anxiety, Depression And Distress And Their Child's Social Competency, Behavior And Emotional Regulation In A Children's Partial Hospital Program, Melisa Maria Laspada
Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated the effect female caretaker psychopathology had on their child's treatment gains in the Children's Intensive Emotional Behavioral Day Program of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The sample consisted of 31 children and 31 female caretakers. The female caretakers' symptoms of psychopathology were measured by using the SCL-90-R Checklist and the children's behaviors were measured by using the Conners' Teacher Rating Scale. The results of this study were termed important since the number of children with behavioral and emotional problems is increasing and the treatment being provided seems to be lacking. It was hoped that the study would …

A Study Of The Effectiveness Of The Wilson Fundations Program When Applied To A Group Of Children With Mild To Moderate Special Needs, Annette J. Sessa
Theses and Dissertations
A program that has addressed the needs of students with mild to moderate disabilities is the Wilson Reading Fundations Program for K-3. The targeted goal of the Wilson Language Training is to help students become fluent, accurate readers. It is a phonology, phonics, and spelling program that includes the basic components of the Wilson Reading System where emphasis is placed on systematic phonics and the study of word structure. Instruction is cumulative and scaffolds all presented skills.
The Wilson Fundations Program was administered to a small group of four children in grade 2, with mild to moderate learning disabilities. This …

Manipulation Of Microbial Metabolic Pathways For The Reduction Of Sulfide Production, Charles David Zuller
Manipulation Of Microbial Metabolic Pathways For The Reduction Of Sulfide Production, Charles David Zuller
Theses and Dissertations
A bacterial additives treatment experiment was conducted to assess the microbial and biochemical changes in stored swine manure. Nitrate salt was added to a slurry of swine waste collected from a waste storage pit to identify the effects of varying levels of nitrate upon the microbial community and the resulting metabolic changes. This research was an attempt to reduce the formation of odorous sulfur-containing compounds and to increase the formation of odorless nitrogen gas by manipulating the metabolic pathways in anaerobic decomposition of the organic matter within manure. Sulfide production from swine wastewater was reduced approximately 45 percent with the …

The Nursing Debut: The Work Entry Transition, Lori Brohm
The Nursing Debut: The Work Entry Transition, Lori Brohm
Student Scholarship
This research proposes that the congruence between an individual's expectations and their perceptions of the experiences upon entering a career affect the adaptation/coping strategies used to achieve a sense of organizational "fit." Interviews conducted with newly graduated nurses and nursing students identified a variety of coping strategies used to deal with the stress of career transition. These adaptation strategies include personal, professional and social coping strategies. Congruence of expectations and experience, the presence of external stressors (long hours, nurse vacancies, high patient volumes), and the quality of orientation experiences and peer relationships require an individual to employ different adjustment strategies. …
The Evaluation Of Chemical Reaction Dynamics Within Swine-Raising Facility: Implications To Odor Evolution And Assessment Of Abatement Strategies, Andrew Joseph Wynn
The Evaluation Of Chemical Reaction Dynamics Within Swine-Raising Facility: Implications To Odor Evolution And Assessment Of Abatement Strategies, Andrew Joseph Wynn
Theses and Dissertations
This research investigated the chemodynamics of the underdrains found at swine- raising facilities. The maintenance of aerobic conditions and introduction of aerobic bacteria to expedite the treatment process and control odor formation were investigated. A pilot-scale system that mimicked an industrial swine-raising facility was used in this study. Aeration and aeration with bacterial seed additions were evaluated against a standard pit recharge system, which served as the control. The effectiveness was measured using water quality testing, odor assessments by a human sensory panel, and air phase measurements of hydrogen sulfide and ammonia. The results indicated that both aeration and aeration …

Emerging Technologies In Architectural Visualization: Implementation Strategies For Practice, Nethra Mettuchetty Ram Mohan
Emerging Technologies In Architectural Visualization: Implementation Strategies For Practice, Nethra Mettuchetty Ram Mohan
Theses and Dissertations
Representation has always been a critical component in architectural practice and representational techniques have been evolving over time. The relatively recent advent of the digital media is revolutionizing architectural representation. Digital representation techniques are proving to be a more effective means of communicating the design to the client and the collaborative project team. The techniques are advancing so rapidly that it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep in pace with the digital acceleration and utilize these representation techniques in architectural practice. There is a wide difference between what is possible using digital architectural visualization and what is implemented in practice. …
The Severe Weather Knowledge Of College Students In The State Of Mississippi, David Joseph Nussbaum
The Severe Weather Knowledge Of College Students In The State Of Mississippi, David Joseph Nussbaum
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to identify how knowledgeable the students of Mississippi are of severe weather. The state of Mississippi is ranked second in the nation with the total number of deaths per state per year. The state also ranks among the top 10 of all states with number of tornadoes per state and cost of damage per state. Considering the facts mentioned above, a study was designed to discover if the students were taught severe weather awareness while they progressed through their twelve years of elementary and secondary schooling. A survey was created through the research of …
