A Synthesizable Single-Cycle Multiply-Accumulator, John Childs Aug 2003

A Synthesizable Single-Cycle Multiply-Accumulator, John Childs

Theses

The multiplication and multiply-accumulate operations are expensive to implement in hardware for Digital Signal Processing, video, and graphics applications. A standard multiply-accumulator has three inputs and a single output that is equal to the product of two of its inputs added to the third input. For some applications it is desirable for a multiply-accumulator to have two outputs; one output that is the product of the first two inputs, and a second output that is the multiply-accumulate result. The goal of this thesis is to investigate algorithms and architectures used to design multipliers and multiply-accumulators, and to create a multiply-accumulator …

Variable Temperature Nmr Studies On 3-Imino-2,2,4,4-Tetramethylcyclobutanones: Gibbs Free Energy For Inversion Of Groups On Nitrogen, Hing-Lun Chong

Theses

A value for the free energy of activation, or G for the inversion of groups on the imino nitrogen of the title compounds was calculated from data obtained from variable temperature NMR. The coalescence temperature, Tc, is obtained as the temperature at which the non-equivalent methyl resonances of the title compounds collapse to a singlet. G is calculated from G =2.3RTc(10.32 + logTc/k) Eq.3 derived from the Eyring Equation. p-Methoxyphenylimino-2,2,4,4-tetramethyl 3-cyclobutanone (4) is found to possess an energy of activation equal to that of 18.55 kcal/mole with its temperature of coalescence at 118C. p-Nitrophenylimino-2,2,4,4-tetramethyl 3-cyclobutanone (5) is found to have …

An Assessment Of Residents' Willingness To Pay For Green Space And Farmland Preservation Conservation Easements Using The Contingent Valuation Method (Cvm), Thomas W. Blaine, Frank R. Lichtkoppler, Reed Stanbro

Journal of Extension

In recent years, federal and state government agencies have required larger proportions of funding for environmental programs to be generated locally. Local officials want assessments of local public opinion in order to make funding decisions. Extension educators should take the opportunity to fill this important need. This article presents results of an Extension study of residents' attitudes toward programs to preserve natural areas and agricultural lands. The findings, obtained using the contingent valuation method (CVM), reveal that basic attitudes toward conservation, area of residence, and income are important predictors of residents' willingness to pay (WTP) for conservation easement programs.

Barriers To Participation In Extension Expanded Foods And Nutrition Programs, John G. Richardson, Jo Ann Y. Williams, R David Mustian

Journal of Extension

Barriers to participation in Extension programs often influence the means of program delivery and approaches to developing educational programs. A study of Expanded Foods and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) clientele in one of North Carolina's poorer rural counties accentuates the difficulties faced by these limited resource clientele in their participation in the EFNEP program, as well as challenges to Extension to recognize and overcome such barriers. The research found that essentially all of this limited resource audience expressed some level of barriers. These included logistical, social, situational, and emotional barriers.

Information Sources And Extension Delivery Methods Used By Private Longleaf Pine Landowners, Rama B. Radhakrishna, Larry Nelson, Robert Franklin, George Kessler

Journal of Extension

Reaching forest landowners with useful information has become a challenging task for Extension educators. This task is even more complex when landowners have differing perceptions about the delivery method and usefulness of the information delivered. A study was conducted to determine the preferred educational delivery methods of forest landowners in South Carolina. We found that landowners do have preferences for educational delivery methods and believe educators should consider the preferred methods to maximize program efforts. Further, findings reinforce the need to modify delivery systems to fit the demographic profile of the intended audience and the changes occurring in technology.

Faculty Adoption Of Computer Technology For Instruction In The North Carolina Community College System., Karen Hill Less

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Computer technology has become an integral part of instruction at the elementary, secondary, and postsecondary levels. Some instructors have enthusiastically adopted technological innovations in their classrooms, often expending their own funds for hardware and software, while others have resisted the trend, citing a myriad of reasons for not including computer technology. Significant research on the adoption of innovations has been undertaken by Everett M. Rogers, who identified individuals on a continuum from Innovator to Laggard. Rogers’ research was used as a basis to classify full-time faculty teaching in degree programs in the North Carolina Community College System and to compare …

The Perceptions Of Interns In A Professional Development School Program, Stacy K. Duffeild Aug 2003

The Perceptions Of Interns In A Professional Development School Program, Stacy K. Duffeild

Theses and Dissertations

Teacher preparation programs are being reviewed nationwide for their effectiveness. Questions such as "Are teacher candidates thoughtfully practicing good teaching?" and "What can be done to better support these candidates as they prepare to become teachers?" need to be studied. The loss of teachers after initial professional teaching experiences can often be attributed to poor preparation and lack of support of these professionals, which results in feelings of isolation and frustration. One model of teacher preparation, the Professional Development School (PDS) endeavors to create the potential for teacher candidates, called interns, to become immersed into the environment of an elementary …

Effects Of Chromium Uptake On The Growth Characteristics Of Eichhornia Crassipes (Mart.) Solms, Zk Rulangaranga, Al Mugasha

Tanzania Journal of Science

The uptake of chromium from fresh water by Eichhornia crassipes was studied under greenhouse conditions where the species was raised in culture solutions containing varying concentrations of chromium (VI) ions. There were positive correlations between the concentration of chromium in the culture media and the amounts of the metal accumulated in the tissues of E. crassipes at any given time. Furthermore, the total accumulated chromium in the tissues of E crassipes increased with increase in the duration for which the plant was exposed to the nutrient solutions containing chromium ions. Most of the absorbed chromium was accumulated in the roots …
