Relational And Overt Aggression In Youth: Same Aggressive Tendency, Different Manifestations?, Monica Marsee Aug 2003

Relational And Overt Aggression In Youth: Same Aggressive Tendency, Different Manifestations?, Monica Marsee

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

The goal of this research was to determine whether relational aggression in girls was similar to overt aggression in boys in terms of social-psychological adjustment. A total of 199 fifth through ninth grade children (86 boys, 113 girls) participated in this study. Relational and overt aggression scores were used to form groups of children who varied on the two types of aggression. Results indicated that overtly aggressive boys did not differ from relationally aggressive girls in terms of depression, anxiety, psychopathy, sensation seeking, ADHD, delinquency, and drug use. Further, boys in the aggressive groups scored consistently higher than boys in …

An Automated Data Warehouse, Sudhindra Sharathkumar Aug 2003

An Automated Data Warehouse, Sudhindra Sharathkumar

LSU New Orleans Theses and Dissertations

An increasing number of organizations are implementing data warehouses to strengthen their decision support systems. This comes with the challenges of the population and the periodic update of data warehouses. In this thesis, we present a tool that provides users with features to create a warehouse database and transform structures of the source database into structures for the warehouse database. It is highly interactive, easy to use, and hides the underlying complexity of manual SQL code generation from its users. Attributes from source tables can be mapped into new attributes in the warehouse database tables using aggregate functions. Then, relevant …

Design And Analysis Of End-Effector Systems For Scribing On Silicon, Bennion Rhead Cannon Aug 2003

Design And Analysis Of End-Effector Systems For Scribing On Silicon, Bennion Rhead Cannon

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis investigates end-effector systems used in a chemomechanical scribing process. Chemomechanical scribing is a method of patterning silicon to selectively deposit a monolayer of material on the surface of the silicon. This thesis details the development of a unique end-effector for chemomechanical scribing using a compliant mechanism solution. The end-effector is developed to scribe lines that have uniform geometry and produce less chipping on the surface of the silicon. The resulting scribing mechanism is passively controlled, has high lateral stiffness, and low axial stiffness. The mechanism is analyzed using the pseudo-rigid-body model and linear-elastic beam method to determine the …

802.11 Denial-Of-Service Attacks: Real Vulnerabilities And Practical Solutions, John M. Bellardo, Stefan Savage Aug 2003

802.11 Denial-Of-Service Attacks: Real Vulnerabilities And Practical Solutions, John M. Bellardo, Stefan Savage

Computer Science and Software Engineering

The convenience of 802.11-based wireless access networks has led to widespread deployment in the consumer, industrial and military sectors. However, this use is predicated on an implicit assumption of confidentiality and availability. While the security flaws in 802.11's basic confidentially mechanisms have been widely publicized, the threats to network availability are far less widely appreciated. In fact, it has been suggested that 802.11 is highly susceptible to malicious denial-of-service (DoS) attacks targeting its management and media access protocols. This paper provides an experimental analysis of such 802.11-specific attacks - their practicality, their efficacy and potential low-overhead implementation changes to mitigate …

The Fcc And Congress Should Consider Consumer Rights When Making The Transition To Dtv, Frank Ing-Jye Chao Aug 2003

The Fcc And Congress Should Consider Consumer Rights When Making The Transition To Dtv, Frank Ing-Jye Chao

Duke Law & Technology Review

This ibrief discusses the copyright issue surrounding the transition into Digital Television. It proposes that the Federal Communications Commission should balance the copyright interests of all parties involved in the DTV transition. Creators of informative and entertaining works must be rewarded with incentives to create further works. Such incentives necessarily involve copyright protection for these content holders. Just as the rights of content holders should be protected, the public's right to access information and to freely express ideas needs to remain protected. Copyright laws, specifically the fair use doctrine, must be allowed to stand firm while maintaining flexibility in order …

The Secretary's Commission On Opportunity In Athletics Squandered Its Opportunity: Commercial College Sports And Why Title Ix Cannot Achieve Full Gender Equality Or Prevent The Elimination Of Minor Men's Teams, Suzanne Sangree Aug 2003

The Secretary's Commission On Opportunity In Athletics Squandered Its Opportunity: Commercial College Sports And Why Title Ix Cannot Achieve Full Gender Equality Or Prevent The Elimination Of Minor Men's Teams, Suzanne Sangree

ExpressO

The Department of Education recently announced that it would not revise the regulations which apply Title IX to athletics, thus rejecting the recommendations of its Commission on Opportunity in Athletics. The Commission’s recommendations would have drastically undercut Title IX’s efficacy and established a Bush Administration model for turning civil rights protections on their heads. Fortunately, the Administration heeded the public critique of the Commission’s recommendations and retreated from its previously stated intention to implement them. Instead, it reiterated its support for the principles of gender equality embodied in Title IX. We thus narrowly averted a civil rights disaster. The great …
