Paul Young Interview For The Lest We Forget Collection Of Oral Histories, Paul Young, Judy Leasure

Lest We Forget (MS-396)

Judy Leasure interviewed Paul Young about his work with the mentally ill and developmentally disabled. The interview was part of the Lest We Forget Collection of oral histories that was created to capture the stories of those involved with mental health and those with developmental disabilities. There are two transcripts to cover the full interview. The project focused on stories and experiences of people from Ohio that lived at, worked in, or dealt with large institutions and the modern movement to smaller home settings and modern treatment of mental illness and developmental disabilities.

Barriers To Domestic Violence Screening In The Emergency Department, Lisa Yonaka Dec 2003

Barriers To Domestic Violence Screening In The Emergency Department, Lisa Yonaka

Master's Projects

Are you in a relationship in which you're being abused? That is not an easy question to answer or ask. Identification of those who are victims of domestic violence is important to prevent further abuse and injury. The purpose of this non-experimental study was to determine barriers of Emergency Department Registered Nurses screening patients for domestic violence. 33 ED RNs completed a short anonymous questionnaire that was developed by Dr. Mary Lou Moore, Wake Forrest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The most significant barriers to screening identified, were the lack of education on how to ask questions about abuse, language barriers, …

Las Tecnologías De La Información Y La Comunicación Y Los Indicadores De Evaluación Universitaria En España, Antonio Cardona Rodríguez, Miren Barrenetzea Ayesta Dec 2003

Las Tecnologías De La Información Y La Comunicación Y Los Indicadores De Evaluación Universitaria En España, Antonio Cardona Rodríguez, Miren Barrenetzea Ayesta

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

All institutions proclaim the importance of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education, but is this taken into account when evaluating universities? Is it included in the evaluation indicators? In Spain, as in other neighboring countries, universities are immersed in a process of institutional evaluation. The indicator catalog is a fundamental part of the evaluation process. In this paper we make a brief analysis of the catalog of indicators proposed by the University Coordination Council in relation to its ability to measure the incorporation of ICT in universities.

From Schweizerhalle To Baia Mare: The Continuing Failure Of International Law To Protect Europe's Rivers, Aaron Schwabach Dec 2003

From Schweizerhalle To Baia Mare: The Continuing Failure Of International Law To Protect Europe's Rivers, Aaron Schwabach

Law Faculty Scholarship

Beginning on January 31, 2000, at least 100,000 cubic meters of highly polluted water escaped from a tailings dam at the Aurul gold mine in Baia Mare, Romania. The water flowed into the Somes, Tisza, and Danube Rivers, causing enormous environmental damage. Most of the damage occurred in Hungary, downstream from Baia Mare. Hungarian politicians called the spill “the first, most serious environment[al] catastrophe in the 21st century,” and “the worst ecological disaster in central Europe since Chernobyl in 1986.”

More striking than the resemblance to the Chernobyl disaster, though, was the resemblance to another 1986 environmental catastrophe: the Sandoz …

Patenting Computer Data Structures: The Ghost, The Machine And The Federal Circuit, Andrew Joseph Hollander Dec 2003

Patenting Computer Data Structures: The Ghost, The Machine And The Federal Circuit, Andrew Joseph Hollander

Duke Law & Technology Review

Courts view "data structures," the mechanism by which computers store data in meaningful relationships, differently than do computer scientists. While computer scientists recognize that data structures have aspects that are both physical (how they are stored in memory) and logical (the relationships among the stored information), the Federal Circuit, in its attempts to set clear standards of the scope of patentability of data structures, has not fully appreciated their dualistic nature. This i-brief explains what data structures are, explores how courts have wrestled with setting a limiting principle to determine their patentability, and discusses the resultant impact on claim drafting.

Rotational Molding Of Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene Polymers And Blends, Mark Grant Spencer Dec 2003

Rotational Molding Of Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene Polymers And Blends, Mark Grant Spencer

Theses and Dissertations

The development of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) resins for use in rotational molding would provide a medium performance material, thus opening doors to new markets for the rotational molding industry. Unfortunately, ABS resins have shown serious problems during the rotational molding process, namely discoloration, bridging, and poor impact strength. It is believed that these effects are due to degradation of the carbon-carbon double bond in the butadiene, through attack by either oxygen or heat. Previous efforts have shown some success in addressing these issues. However, additional improvements are necessary to make ABS resins commercially viable to rotational molders. This study, fourth in …
