Reducing Racial And Ethnic Health Disparities: Estimating The Impact Of High Health Center Penetration In Low-Income Communities, Peter Shin, Karen Jones, Sara J. Rosenbaum

Health Policy and Management Faculty Publications

The health disparities literature suggests that although the lack of health insurance is the most basic barrier to health care, improved access to clinically appropriate care is key, particularly in the case of minority and low-income populations where the health risks are greatest. This study examines the relationship between health center penetration into medically underserved communities and the reduction of state-level health disparities. Health centers were developed with the express aim of serving medically underserved persons. Their doubling represents a significant health priority of the Bush Administration and one that enjoys bipartisan Congressional support.

A Manufacturing Execution System Using Siemens' Pc Based Automation Technology, Prakash Gandhi Sep 2003

A Manufacturing Execution System Using Siemens' Pc Based Automation Technology, Prakash Gandhi

Theses

The focus of any manufacturing operation is to establish better yields, reduced cycle times, increase quality, and handle dynamic demand/resource fluctuations. Over the past few years many manufacturing companies have implemented Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and they have proved themselves to be successful in achieving these goals. However, real-time data is required in order to portray an accurate account of the day-to-day and/or hourly product manufacturing operations. Retrieval of this real-lime data is a challenging task. A Manufacturing Execution System (MES) is a real-time information system that improves the performance of the shop floor operations by linking business planning, …

Traditions, Values, And Humanitarian Action, Kevin M. Cahill, M.D. Sep 2003

Traditions, Values, And Humanitarian Action, Kevin M. Cahill, M.D.

Institute of International Humanitarian Affairs

This third volume in the pioneering series, International Humanitarian Affairs, goes beyond the practical to address fundamental questions at the heart of humanitarian actions.

How do different religious, cultural, and social systems—and the values they support—shape humanitarian action? What are the bases of caring societies? Are there universal values for human well-being? International experts come face to face with the assumptions about human dignity and social justice that guide efforts to rescue and repair communities in crisis.

The original essays explore mandates for humanitarian action in religious traditions, and codes of conduct for the media, military, medicine, and the academy …

Chulalongkorn University Dental Journal
