Business Faculty Opinions Of Teaching Methods And Resources, Gundars Kaupins, Malcolm Coco
Business Faculty Opinions Of Teaching Methods And Resources, Gundars Kaupins, Malcolm Coco
Mountain Plains Journal of Business and Technology
About two hundred and eighty business professors compared seventeen teaching methods and resources based on four objectives. Interactive, hands-on teaching methods such as internships were rated first and less interactive teaching resources such as radio were rated last. Web courses that included more interaction such as chats were rated higher than Web courses with audio, typed lectures, and videos. However, all four types of Web courses investigated were rated in the bottom half of the teaching methods and resources. Results correspond to major principles of andragogy theory.

Can The Cosmopolitan Speak: The Question Of Indian Novelists’ Authenticity, John C. Hawley
English
The marketing of books is often beyond the control of their authors; nonetheless, dust jackets sometimes offer amusing evidence of the audience that publication houses, if not authors, wish to reach. Thus, in Red Earth and Pouring Rain ( 1995), Vikram Chandra apparently offers readers the sto1y of "an eighteenth-century wan-ior poet (now reincarnated as a typewriting monkey) and an Indian student home from college in America ... [and] ranging from bloody battles in colonial India to college anomie in California, from Hindu gods to MTV." By way of context, consider Lee Siegel's academic novel, Love in a Dead Language …

International Royalty And Continental Shelf Limits: Emerging Issues For The Canadian Offshore, Aldo Chircop, Bruce Marchand
International Royalty And Continental Shelf Limits: Emerging Issues For The Canadian Offshore, Aldo Chircop, Bruce Marchand
Dalhousie Law Journal
Article 82 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, 1982, provides a novel obligation in international law that is likely to become operative within the decade. It establishes an international royalty on production from the utilization of non-living resources (such as oil and gas) on the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles, but within the outer limit of a coastal state's jurisdiction. Producing states will have an obligation to make payments or contributions in kind that are calculated on the basis of an incremental rate applicable as from the sixth year of production and reaching a …

Global Warming Could Have A Chilling Effect On The Military, Richard F. Pittenger, Robert B. Gagosian
Global Warming Could Have A Chilling Effect On The Military, Richard F. Pittenger, Robert B. Gagosian
Defense Horizons
Most debates and studies addressing potential climate change have focused on the buildup of industrial greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and a gradual increase in global temperatures. But this “slow ramp”1 climate change scenario ignores recent and rapidly advancing evidence that Earth’s climate repeatedly has become much colder, warmer, wetter, or drier—in time spans as short as three to 10 years.
Earth’s climate system appears to have sensitive thresholds, the crossing of which shifts the system into different modes of operation and triggers rapid, non-linear, and not necessarily global changes. This new paradigm of abrupt climate change does not appear …

On The International Game Developers Association's Second Academic Summit, Gareth Schott
Reconstruction: Studies in Contemporary Culture
[First paragraph]
This year a broad range of academics journeyed to San Jose to join game developers in attendance at the second International Game Developers Association's (IGDA) Academic Summit, organized and run by the small but productive IGDA Educational Committee. The main focus of this year's event was to shape the nature of future relationships between the academic community and the game development industry. Over the two-day event structured discussions and group-work were used effectively to generate key issues and debates relevant to a) theoretical research and the study of games, b) curriculum and instruction and c) commercial applications of …

Ancient Egyptian Religion On The Silver Screen: Modern Anxieties About Race, Ethnicity, And Religion, Caroline T. Schroeder
Ancient Egyptian Religion On The Silver Screen: Modern Anxieties About Race, Ethnicity, And Religion, Caroline T. Schroeder
Journal of Religion & Film
This essay examines the depiction of religion, race, and ethnicity in four films: The Mummy, Stargate, The Ten Commandments, and Prince of Egypt. Each film - explicitly or implicitly, deliberately or not - uses ancient Egyptian religion as a foil to dramatize American concerns about race and ethnicity. The foil is the mysterious, and often false, religiosity of an often Orientalized religious and ethnic "other."

Wto Accession: What's In It For Russia?, Abdur Chowdhury
Economics Faculty Research and Publications
Prospects for Russia’s membership in the WTO now look better than any point since accession negotiations began almost a decade ago. Good progress with economic and legal reforms within Russia has left the country’s economy better prepared for membership. Nevertheless, the economy still suffers from various weaknesses including, but not limited to, pervasive subsidies for different sectors, lack of liberalization and foreign participation especially in the service sector, inefficiency in custom administration, lack of enforcement of intellectual property rights, etc. For all their sensitivity, the negotiations on the import tariff levels and access to the service sectors are the least …

Proposal For A Model State Watershed Management Act, J.B. Ruhl, C.L. Lant, Steven E. Kraft, Leslie A. Duram, Tim Loftus
Vanderbilt Law School Faculty Publications
During the Montana Constitutional Convention of 1889, John Wesley Powell, envisioning a landscape of watershed commonwealths, proposed that Montana adopt watersheds as the boundaries of its counties. The idea did not catch on. Over time, the power of local governments to regulate land use has grown immensely, but the misfit between their political boundaries and environmental policy problem sheds has persisted. As our understanding of ecosystem dynamics improves, however, natural resources management policy is gravitating, once again, to the watershed as an appropriate unit of governance. Many federal and state natural resource management initiatives have come on line in the …
