New Social Movements And The Struggle For Worker’S Rights In The Maquila Industry, Victoria Carty Jan 2003

New Social Movements And The Struggle For Worker’S Rights In The Maquila Industry, Victoria Carty

Sociology Faculty Articles and Research

"Campaigns to improve worker’s rights in export processing zones (EPZs), also referred to the maquila industry in Latin America, is an important topic analytically and politically. On theoretical and practical levels, the co-existence of market economies with effective means to ensure adequate working conditions for workers is a critical question. Underlying the issue is a vigorous debate regarding how the global economy should be governed; who or what should govern it, and whose interest is should serve (Faux, 2002)."

The Influence Of Japanese Figure Conventions On French Art Of The Late Nineteenth Century, Lana Carol Zepponi Jan 2003

The Influence Of Japanese Figure Conventions On French Art Of The Late Nineteenth Century, Lana Carol Zepponi

Honors Theses

Japanese ukiyo-e prints influenced the treatment of figures in French art during the second half of the nineteenth century. While this topic has been addressed by scholars of japonisme, I did not find a work in English focused solely on it. Herein, I analyze the transfer of Japanese figure conventions to French art by compiling Gabriel Weisberg, Colta Feller Ives, and Jay Martin observations, and comparing French and Japanese art to information from scholars such Kloner, presenting my support my argument. Works by major artists Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas, and Mary as own Cassatt are discussed. I chose these artists …

Aviation Opportunities In Ecotourism, Mary M. Snow, Richard K. Snow Jan 2003

Aviation Opportunities In Ecotourism, Mary M. Snow, Richard K. Snow

Journal of Aviation/Aerospace Education & Research

Ecotourism is a specialized form of tourism designed to allow the exploration of unique natural and cultural areas while creating a positive impact on local communities. As the primary mode of international transportation, aviation stands to benefit further from the burgeoning ecotourism market. This paper presents data that demonstrate the unprecedented growth of ecotourism in recent years and suggests opportunities the industry offers those in the field of aviation. Also discussed is the potential for achieving a greater degree of economic and ecologic sustainability for ecotour destinations.

Paul's Use Of Canonical And Noncanonical Wisdom Literature In Romans And The Corinthian Letters, Tadashi Ino Jan 2003

Paul's Use Of Canonical And Noncanonical Wisdom Literature In Romans And The Corinthian Letters, Tadashi Ino

Dissertations

Scholars have tended to deal mainly with the function of wisdom traditions in general in Paul's argument. Furthermore, no one has compared his use of canonical and noncanonical wisdom literature. This present study sought to determine the nature of Paul's use of wisdom literature by comparing his use of canonical wisdom books (Job, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes) with his use of noncanonical ones (Sirach and the Wisdom of Solomon) in Romans, and 1 and 2 Corinthians. …

A Civics Action: Interpreting Adequacy In State Constitutions Education Clauses, Joshua Gupta-Kagan Jan 2003

A Civics Action: Interpreting Adequacy In State Constitutions Education Clauses, Joshua Gupta-Kagan

Faculty Scholarship

The antipathy of federal and state courts toward equal protection arguments in lawsuits challenging the public funding of education have forced education activists to search for alternative doctrinal hooks as they continue to seek reform in states' funding and management of schools. These activists have turned to state constitutions' education clauses, which impose duties on state governments to provide an "adequate" education for all children in the state. However, the art of defining and measuring an "adequate" education has advanced little beyond its state in 1973, when Justice Thurgood Marshall found the term unhelpful. In this Note, Josh Kagan surveys …
