Authenticity, Authoriality, And The Nature Of Electronic Texts: Don Quijote In The Age Of Digital Reproduction, Matthew D. Stroud

Modern Languages and Literatures Faculty Research

In "The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction," Walter Benjamin provided thought-provoking insights into the way that lithography, photography, and cinema changed the nature of art and our perceptions of it. Among other considerations, he noted that the efficient mass reproduction of works of art affected notions of authenticity, the author, and the response of the viewer or reader. In many ways, the advent of the Internet causes us to review his arguments and expand on them in light of this new, digitized, decentralized, and diffuse method of reproducing works of art, including literature. Among the first …

Notable 19th Century American Accountants That Could Be Considered For The Accounting Hall-Of-Fame, George C. Romeo

Accounting Historians Notebook

In America, the 19th century marked the beginning of substantial economic changes (development of the vast railroad system, industrialization, and unsatiated demand for capital), providing an environment conducive to the establishment of a new profession, public accountancy. Many of the 19th century American accountants are not as well known as their 20th century counterparts, and only two accountants who worked primarily in the 19th century are currently in the Hall of Fame; Charles E. Sprague and Charles Haskins. Until recently, there …

Evaluation Report On Echo Funded Humanitarian Mine Action Pilot Projects In North-West Of Cambodia, Marcel Durocher, Agim Hoti, Mok Tonh, Keo Vut

Global CWD Repository

The European Commission Humanitarian Aid Office (ECHO) has been actively involved in mine action programs in Cambodia since 1996. ECHO recognized that there was a clear and urgent need to develop new approaches to address the needs of the most at risk communities. In mid 2002 it decided to fund three pilot initiatives with the objective of reducing mine/UXO risks and casualties in North Western Cambodia while taking into account the needs of local communities. This is an area, which recently witnessed a large influx of families from other parts of Cambodia. Many of these newcomers opted to take the …

"On The Chastity Of Women All Property In The World Depends" : Injury From Sexual Slander In The Nineteenth Century, Lisa R. Pruitt Oct 2003

"On The Chastity Of Women All Property In The World Depends" : Injury From Sexual Slander In The Nineteenth Century, Lisa R. Pruitt

Indiana Law Journal

In this Article, Professor Pruitt discusses conceptions of the injury associated with defamation law, focusing in particular on sexual slander cases that were brought in the early nineteenth century, before statements that impugned a woman's chastity were deemed slander per se. During this time, women had to prove so-called "special damages" in order to state a cause of action.
