The Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies (HRC) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) has analyzed approximately 200 groundwater samples for over 60 trace elements and major solutes over the past ten years. These samples represent groundwaters from the Nevada Test Site, Amargosa Valley, the Spring Mountains, Death Valley, Ash Meadows, Pahranagat Valley, and Oasis Valley. The preparation of a data base containing all of these data is near completion and will be submitted to DOE upon its completion. Data verification is in progress. Effects Of A Supportive-Education Nursing Intervention On Quality Of Life In Patients With Heart Failure, Melodee L. Vanden Bosch

The purpose of this secondary analysis was to examine the difference in quality of life (QOL) in home-care patients with heart failure (HF) receiving nursing intervention. The specific nursing intervention of interest was supportive-education (SE), based on Orem's (1995) self-care deficit theory. The second intervention of general health teaching acted as a placebo effect. The convenience sample of randomly assigned patients with HF was from two home-care agencies. The paired t-test was used to analyze the difference in QOL within the SE group and the placebo group from baseline to six months. The independent t-test was used to compare the …

Gender Differences In Alcohol Expectancies: Influence Of Context And Specificity Of Items, Andrea Hope Weinberger

Studies of alcohol expectancies have been equivocal regarding the existence of gender differences. A review of past studies suggested variables that could be useful for future studies such as investigating context-specific expectancies. The current study was designed to investigate the influence of context and item content on gender differences in expectancies. Undergraduate students who reported going to bars once a month or more (N = 321) completed an expectancy measure either while imagining themselves in a bar situation (Context condition) or with no contextual instructions (No Context condition). The expectancy measure consisted of expectancies that were "general" (Social and Tension …
