Signs Of Life: Rediscovering Nineteenth Century Indian Key Through Glass Analysis, Alexis Broadbent Sykes

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Archaeological investigations of Indian Key Historic State Park in the Florida Keys have uncovered a wide range of historical artifacts from throughout the nineteenth century that reveal how the site was reused and reoccupied through time. This thesis focuses on the glass component recovered from a house cistern complex (Feature F) and a warehouse (Features A and C) during the 1998 to 2002 field seasons. The Frictions Of Federalism: The Rise And Fall Of The Federal Common Law Of Interstate Nuisance, Robert V. Percival

Faculty Scholarship

Prior to the erection in the 1970s of a comprehensive federal regulatory infrastructure to protect the environment, transboundary pollution disputes frequently were adjudicated by the U.S. Supreme Court, exercising its original jurisdiction over disputes between states. In a series of cases commencing at the dawn of the Twentieth Century, the Court served as a national arbiter of interstate pollution disputes. This paper reviews the history of the Supreme Court's use of these cases to develop a federal common law of interstate nuisance.

The paper argues that while federal common law initially performed a zoning function by encouraging polluters to relocate …

Energy Transfer Concept In Ac/Dc Switch Mode Power Supply With Power Factor Correction, Issa Batarseh, Wei Gu, Weihong Qiu, Wenkai Wu Oct 2003

Energy Transfer Concept In Ac/Dc Switch Mode Power Supply With Power Factor Correction, Issa Batarseh, Wei Gu, Weihong Qiu, Wenkai Wu

UCF Patents

A new innovative concept in AC/DC converter that transfers energy to the output side directly from the input line, rather than from the storage capacitor in power factor correction (PFC) cell during the line voltage exceeds the present value. The new concept is based on providing additional winding coupled to the DC/DC transformer connected to the rectified input side to provide a path for the energy transfer from the line to transfer to the output directly (Boost converter) or to be stored in the output transformer Flyback cell).

Effects Of Radio-Transmitters On Fecal Glucocorticoid Levels In Captive Dickcissels, Kimberly M. Suedkamp Wells, Brian E. Washburn, Joshua J. Millspaugh, Mark R. Ryan, Michael W. Hubbard Oct 2003

Effects Of Radio-Transmitters On Fecal Glucocorticoid Levels In Captive Dickcissels, Kimberly M. Suedkamp Wells, Brian E. Washburn, Joshua J. Millspaugh, Mark R. Ryan, Michael W. Hubbard

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

We determined the effects of a leg-harness transmitter on fecal glucocorticoid levels of wild male Dickcissels (Spiza americana) in captivity. During the post-breeding season of 2001, we captured 10 male Dickcissels in central Missouri and housed them in individual pens of an outdoor aviary. We radio-tagged five birds; the other five were captured and handled, but were not radio-tagged. We collected fecal samples every other day prior to attachment (31 July– 21 August) and after attachment (24 August–20 September). Body condition and morphology were similar between control and transmitter-equipped birds. We observed a significant interaction between transmitter attachment …

Juror Sensitivity To The Cross-Race Effect, Jordan Abshire, Brian H. Bornstein Oct 2003

Juror Sensitivity To The Cross-Race Effect, Jordan Abshire, Brian H. Bornstein

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

Black and White mock jurors’ sensitivity to the cross-race effect was investigated by varying the race of the eyewitness in a simulated murder trial of a Black defendant. Participants heard an audiotape of a trial after which they rendered a verdict and rated the credibility of the witnesses. White participants found the prosecution witnesses (including the eyewitness) more credible, and the defense witness less credible, than did Black participants; they were also more likely to find the defendant guilty. The Black eyewitness was perceived as more credible than was the White eyewitness, but eyewitness race had no effect on verdict. …
