Restricting The Use Of Animal Traps In The United States: An Overview Of Laws And Strategy, Dena M. Jones, Sheila Hughes Rodriguez Jan 2003

Restricting The Use Of Animal Traps In The United States: An Overview Of Laws And Strategy, Dena M. Jones, Sheila Hughes Rodriguez

Animal Law Review

Enacting absolute bans on the use of trapping devices and on commerce in trapped animal products has been difficult. Nearly every state, however, has enacted some restrictions on who can trap, what animals can be trapped, where and when animals can be trapped, the type and size of permitted traps, and how often traps must be checked. This article summarizes past and potential approaches to curtail the use of traps in the U.S. at federal, state and local levels. The article also notes litigation related to trapping and trapping prohibitions.

Measurement Of Mode Patterns In A High-Power Microwave Cavity, Sergey Kharkovsky, U. C. Hasar Jan 2003

Measurement Of Mode Patterns In A High-Power Microwave Cavity, Sergey Kharkovsky, U. C. Hasar

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

A wet thermal paper method for measuring of mode patterns and heat distributions in a high-power microwave multimode cavity is developed. The exposure time of the paper is evaluated. It is shown that this method allows measuring and recording mode patterns in the loaded and unloaded cavity, and the heat distribution inside the cavity with a load movement. The mode patterns and heat distributions along horizontal and vertical planes of the cavity are presented. Possible applications of the method in medicine and biology are discussed, and a calibration protocol of a microwave oven for microwave radiation exposure on cell cultures …

Thermocline Tracking Using An Upgraded Ocean Explorer Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Mathieu. Clabon Jan 2003

Thermocline Tracking Using An Upgraded Ocean Explorer Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Mathieu. Clabon

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2000 - 2009

This thesis addresses the problem of tracking a thermocline---a layer of water showing an intense vertical temperature gradient---with an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). One of Florida Atlantic University's Ocean Explorer (OEX) AUV has been upgraded, as part of the work described here, by integration of a standard and convenient software interface, and used in several thermocline survey experiments aimed at gathering oceanographic data relevant to thermoclines. A tool that simulates the longitudinal motion of the OEX through a water slice, whose temperature map is read using a simulated temperature and depth sensor, has been developed. Using this tool and information …

Binary Representation Of Dna Sequences Towards Developing Useful Algorithms In Bioinformatic Data-Mining, Shivani. Pandya Jan 2003

Binary Representation Of Dna Sequences Towards Developing Useful Algorithms In Bioinformatic Data-Mining, Shivani. Pandya

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2000 - 2009

This thesis refers to a research addressing the use of binary representation of the DNA for the purpose of developing useful algorithms for Bioinformatics. Pertinent studies address the use of a binary form of the DNA base chemicals in information-theoretic base so as to identify symmetry between DNA and complementary DNA. This study also refers to "fuzzy" (codon-noncodon) considerations in delinating codon and noncodon regimes in a DNA sequences. The research envisaged further includes a comparative analysis of the test results on the aforesaid efforts using different statistical metrics such as Hamming distance Kullback-Leibler measure etc. the observed details supports …
