Mildred Estelle “Stell” (Beehner) Shevis was born on July 1, 1915 in Hartford, Connecticut to George and Mildred Beehner and grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She attended Watertown High School before going on to the Massachusetts College of Art. Here she met her future husband William “Shev” Shevis. Shev Shevis emigrated from Scotland in 1928. He grew up in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts and graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1937. After they were married, Stell and Shev moved to Belmont, Maine to become freelance artists, where they were one of only 2 Democratic families in the town. They …

Joan Smith (pronounced Jo-Ann) was born in Camden, Maine. Her family has lived in the Camden area since before the American Revolution. After Smith married her husband Owen, they moved to Washington, D.C. for eight years, until Owen’s death. The Smiths lived in the Chevy Chase area of D.C. and lived right across the street from Harry McPherson. Joan eventually moved back to Maine to raise her seven children. She and her husband were active Democrats.

Isotropization In Brane Gas Cosmology, Scott Watson, Robert H. Brandenberger

Brane Gas Cosmology (BGC) is an approach to unifying string theory and cosmology in which matter is described by a gas of strings and branes in a dilaton gravity background. The Universe is assumed to start out with all spatial dimensions compact and small. It has previously been shown that in this context, in the approximation of neglecting inhomogeneities and anisotropies, there is a dynamical mechanism which allows only three spatial dimensions to become large. However, previous studies do not lead to any conclusions concerning the isotropy or anisotropy of these three large spatial dimensions. Here, we generalize the equations …

The death of Roone Arledge this past week marks the passing of one those remarkable figures in recent history who had a major influence on mass culture in America. He changed the viewing habits of Americans, transformed the way in which television covers sport, altered the nature and character of American sport, and transformed the way in which television presents reality to the American public. For all of these reasons Roone Arledge cast a large shadow over America in the second half of the twentieth century.

Pituitary Adenoma In A Horse: A Case Report, Nopadon Pirarat, Kohsaku Chijiwa, Pattama Ritruechai, Sawang Kesdangsakonwut, Komkrich Teankum, Wijit Banlunara, Anudep Rungsipipat, Boonmee Sunyasutjaree

The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine

A female, grey, 24-year-old horse was showing clinical signs of weight loss, ataxia, hersutism, high fever, dysuria, nasal discharge and moist rale lung sounds. Gross examination revealed a single, white, firm, pituitary mass with a diameter 2.5 x 2.1 x 1.5 cm, compressed and overlying the hypothalamus. Histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations revealed the characteristic of a ACTH-derived pituitary adenoma.
