Objective: Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) is a rising epidemic in developing countries. While studies in the West have established the characteristics and management of AMI patients, comprehensive data reflecting these issues in the Pakistani subjects is scarce. This study examined the profile and management of AMI in patients hospitalized at a tertiary care hospital in Karachi, Pakistan.Methods: Three hundred forty four patients admitted in 1998 with the diagnosis of AMI met our inclusion criteria. Data on presentation, investigations, monitoring and therapy was obtained. Chi-square and t tests were used to analyze the data.Results: Out of 344 patients with AMI, 71% …

A RF planar coil inductively coupled plasma syslem (ICP) is used in this project to nitride a commercially pure titanium substrate. The system is powered by a 600 W, 13.56 MHz, 50 Ω RF generator. The impedance matching is achieved by using an air­-core step-down transformer and a tunable vacuum capacitor. The electrical discharge characteristics of argon and argon-nitrogen admixture plasmas are investigated. Coil current, ion density and RF power transferred in the plasma at different pressure are studied. Nitriding of titanium using the system is found to be able to produce θ-TiN, ε-Ti2N and α-Ti(N) layers, as confirmed by …

The plastics in a tyre factory were investigated. The plastics were analysed by FTlR-transmission, FTI.R-ATR, softening point apparatus as well as a Differential Scanning Calorimeter. All the plastics were detected to be polyethene based with melting point range of 107 to 125°C. It was also observed that The FTIR transmission spectrum can be different from the FTIR-ATR spectrum. The FTIR-ATR spectrum gives a higher band intensity at longer wavelengths compared to the FTIR-Transmission spectrum. Interference fringes can be present in the FTlR transmission spectrum. This study examined the effectiveness of a 20 week, individual forgiveness intervention for a late adolescent female incest survivor. The forgiveness intervention was taken from Enright's (1991) Process Model of Forgiveness. This intervention has been shown to be effective in at least four scientific studies to date (Al-Mabuk, Enright, & Cardis, 1995; Coyle & Enright, 1997; Freedman & Enright, 1996; Hehl & Enright, 1993). This study used content analysis to examine contemporary young adult fiction to see how the grandparent-grandchild relationship was portrayed. The titles were randomly chosen books taken from the American Library Association Best Books for Young Adults annual lists 1990-2000. Simple perceptions of grandparents as older adults who see their grandchildren on special occasions are no longer realistic.
