Androgenesis: The Best Tool For Manipulation Of Fish Genomes, Minal P. Bhise, Tariq A. Khan
Androgenesis: The Best Tool For Manipulation Of Fish Genomes, Minal P. Bhise, Tariq A. Khan
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Androgenesis involves the development of an organism with only paternal chromosomes. The induction of androgenesis using diploid sperm, highly effective UV-irradiation of egg, dispermy using heterologous eggs, the possibility of producing supermales for all male production and the recovery of cryopreserved sperm are recent technological developments in androgenesis in fish. However, few researchers have successfully produced viable diploid androgens in fish. The authors made an attempt to induce androgenesis in the common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) and the results are discussed along with the potential applications of androgenesis in conserving fish genomes and current knowledge on inducing androgenesis in fish.

Impact Of Two Sublethal Concentrations Of Copper Chloride And Chlorine On The Excretory Products Of Crab Sesarma Quadratum (Fabricius), Santhana Valarmathi, Jayapaul Azariah
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Excretion in estuarine animals is considered to be an important factor in assessing their physiological status. The pattern of oxygen consumption and excretion patterns (ammonia and nitrite) in medium size mud crabs of S. quadratum (3 to 4 g weight) were studied under laboratory conditions at two sublethal concentrations of 1/10 and 1/3 of the LC_{50} value of copper chloride and chlorine. The rates of oxygen consumption and excreted products were negatively correlated to the sublethal concentrations of the toxicant. Reduced rates of oxygen consumption and excretion of ammonia and nitrite were observed when exposed to these sublethal concentrations.

This paper presents a new idea for lexical analysis: lolo (language-oriented lexer objects) is strictly based on the object orientation paradigm. We introduce the idea behind the system, describe the implementation, and compare it to the conventional approach using lex[1] or flex[2].lolo[3] extracts symbols from a sequence of input characters belonging to the ASCII or Unicode sets. lolo scanners can be extended without access to the source code: symbol recognizers can be derived by inheritance and an executing scanner can be reconfigured for different contexts. Recognizer actions are represented by objects which may be replaced at any time. Recognizers need …
Data-Efficient Methods Applied To General Spectral Image Capture, Mitchell Rosen, Francisco Imai, Mark Fairchild
Data-Efficient Methods Applied To General Spectral Image Capture, Mitchell Rosen, Francisco Imai, Mark Fairchild
Articles
Commercialization of spectral imaging for color reproduction will require low bandwidth but highly accurate spectral image acquisition systems. Self-adapting systems are proposed as potential solutions. Such systems perform spectral content analysis on an encountered scene, reacting to the analysis by configuring efficient high quality spectral reconstruction. An experiment is reported comparing scene-derived spectral estimation transforms to static global transforms in multi-channel imaging simulations. For noisefree simulations, the adaptive approach showed clear benefit in terms of colorimetric and spectral statistics. When noise was added, the adaptive method continued to be superior in terms of spectral evaluations, but colorimetric degradation for the …

We exploit the known links between natural habitats and biodiversity to pose and study the biodiversity conservation question as an optimal stopping problem. We extend the extant literature on this question by studying the role that autonomous and nonautonomous policies play in the decision to conserve biodiversity over time and uncertainty. We first construct a dynamic and stochastic model of decision making in the context of biodiversity conservation. Next, we use this model to analyze the expected utility of a social planner when this planner uses, respectively, autonomous and nonautonomous policies. Finally, we compare and contrast the properties of autonomous …
The Impact Of Internet Commerce And Trade Exchanges On Business Productivity, John Simon, Jack Cook
The Impact Of Internet Commerce And Trade Exchanges On Business Productivity, John Simon, Jack Cook
Articles
According to some studies, the growing investment in information technology did not raise productivity in the 1980s - this observation was dubbed the productivity paradox. However productivity did rise in the 1990s - which could be a delayed effect, or due to the growth in networking. In this paper we address the impact of Internet commerce and trade exchanges on business productivity.

The Arizona Supreme Court endorsed the objective that jury trials "allow for a more democratic juror experience" and "are more educational and less adversarial" and urged judges and trial attorneys to be "open to doing some old things in new ways, to be more receptive to the jurors' needs to learn better and to actively participate to a greater degree in the fact-finding process. Acting on 55 recommendations of its Committee on the More Effective Use of Juries, the court enacted new rules. But one reform--permitting jurors in civil cases to discuss the evidence among themselves before final deliberations--proved to …

What Is The Point? Teaching Ideas For Thesis Sentences, Kathleen Elliott Vinson
Suffolk University Law School Faculty Works
Readers are pragmatic and want to know the bottom line. The use of strong topic or thesis sentences will grab the reader’s attention and help the reader understand the significance of the information in each paragraph. The writer does not want to waste an opportunity or just tread water in a thesis sentence by merely stating a fact. This article discusses teaching ideas and exercises for drafting effective thesis sentences.
