Mylanodon Rosei, A New Metacheiromyid (Mammalia: Palaeanodonta) From The Late Tiffanian (Late Paleocene) Of Northwestern Wyoming, Ross Secord, Philip D. Gingerich, Jonathan I. Bloch
Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences: Faculty Publications
Mylanodon rosei is a new genus and species of late Paleocene metacheiromyid palaeanodont from a new late Tiffanian locality, Y2K Quarry, in the Clarks Fork Basin, Wyoming. The type is an adult dentary with P4 and a molariform double-rooted M1. This provides the first evidence that molariform teeth were retained in early Metacheiromyidae. A second specimen is a juvenile dentary with a partial P3 and an unerupted P4. This is the first juvenile dentition known for a Paleocene metacheiromyid. The new specimens enable determination of dental homologies. Reduction of teeth in early metacheiromyids took …

Search For Radiative B,-Hadron Decays In Pp̅ Collisions At √S=1.8 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration
Kenneth Bloom Publications
We have performed a search for radiative b-hadron decays using events produced in pp̅ collisions at √s=1.8 TeV and collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The decays we considered were B̅d0→K*0(→K-π+) γ, B̅s0→φ(→K+K-) γ, Λb0→ Λ(→pπ-) γ, and their charge conjugates. Two independent methods to identify photons from such decays were employed. In the first method, the photon was detected in the electromagnetic calorimeter. In the second method, the photon was identified …
Derivation Of An Expression That Defines The Pulling Forces In Relays With Small Operating Gaps, D. J. Chambega
Derivation Of An Expression That Defines The Pulling Forces In Relays With Small Operating Gaps, D. J. Chambega
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
This paper derives an expression that defines magnitude of the pulling force developed in relays with small operating gaps, that is, when the length of the operating gap in between the yoke and the armature is small as compared to the area of the poles at the yoke. To obtain the expression, saturation of the core material is not considered. Results from the expression are then compared with those obtained experimentally. The comparison is found to deliver acceptable accuracy.
Discrete Element Modelling Of The Abrasive Dehulling Process Of Sorghum And Millet, E. L. Lazaro
Discrete Element Modelling Of The Abrasive Dehulling Process Of Sorghum And Millet, E. L. Lazaro
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
The abrasive dehulling process of sorghum and millet was modelled using a three-dimensional discrete element model. The model was validated by comparison between experimental and simulation results. Good correlation between experimental and simulation results was obtained. Several numerical experiments were also carried out using the developed model to investigate the influence of mill and grain parameters on dehulling of sorghum and millet. The simulated results correlated well with experimental results from literature. The developed model therefore provides a simple and cheap tool, which can be used to study the dehulling process in more detail than, is currently possible using the …

The Effect Of Minimum Wages On Employment In Indonesia, Leo Sukatrilaksana
The Effect Of Minimum Wages On Employment In Indonesia, Leo Sukatrilaksana
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
Minimum wages have been a major consideration in Indonesia in recent years, as the government has strongly pursued a minimum wage policy. The levels of regional minimum wages have been increased significantly since 1989, and there is a concern that these increases may have slowed employment growth. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to examine the employment effects of minimum wages, using data for 26 provinces, covering the period from 1988 to 1999. The study focuses on different groups of workers within the urban formal sector. The results of graphical and statistical analysis indicate some support for the conventional …

Pretreatment Of Robusta Coffee Hulls And Co-Digestion With Cow-Dung For Enhanced Anaerobic Digestion, A. K. Kivaisi
Tanzania Journal of Science
The effect of alkali pre-treatment on anaerobic digestion of Robusta coffee hulls with a lignin content of 29% was studied in batch culture at 55˚C. In order to investigate the effect of cow dung in minimising the effect of coffee-based inhibitory compounds, digestion experiments were performed with blends of pre-treated and non-treated coffee hulls and cow dung with 0,5,10,20,30,50,75 and 100% coffee hulls at a total volatile solids concentration of 1.8g/l fermentation volume. Methane production increased with increase in coffee hulls concentration up to 30% for both substrates. The lowest production was observed at 100% non-treated coffee hulls. Methane production …

Optimal Pumping Strategies For Umatilla Chemical Depot Rdx And Tnt Plumes, Richard C. Peralta
Optimal Pumping Strategies For Umatilla Chemical Depot Rdx And Tnt Plumes, Richard C. Peralta
Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications
We present optimal pumping strategies to address RDX and TNT plumes at Umatilla Chemical Depot (UCD). We provide strategies for four optimization problem formulations. Each strategy requires constructing 2 wells. New Well U-1 is in the same location for all strategies. The second well location can differ with formulation. The number in a strategy’s name refers to the formulation it addresses. Using optimization in design is normally an iterative process involving interaction between the designer and client after preliminary optimizations are performed. This project does not permit that. To compensate, we present a second strategy for Formulation 1 (Strategy USU1B), …

Lessons From Argentina’S Currency Board System For Indonesia, Agus Fadjar Setiawan
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
The purpose of this study is to attempt to draw lessons from Argentina’s Currency Board System (CBS) for Indonesia. Moreover, this study reviews Argentina’s economic performance before and after the implementation of the CBS, through an examination of some macroeconomic indicators namely real GDP growth, interest rates, money and inflation, as well as fiscal condition. The first three indicators are compared to the US, as the reserve-currency country, and Indonesia. The last indicator is compared to Indonesia only.In summary, the study found that after the adoption of the CBS the economic growth of Argentina substantially improved. The real interest rate …
Monetary Policy In Post-Crisis Indonesia: Some Lessons Learned, Reza Anglingkusumo
Monetary Policy In Post-Crisis Indonesia: Some Lessons Learned, Reza Anglingkusumo
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
The base money-targeting framework has shown signs of success in containing the reemergence of inflationary pressures in post crisis Indonesia. We have attributed this initial success to the plausible existence of the monetarist type economic relationships that have lent support to the effectiveness of the framework. Moreover, a clear cut and overriding commitment to maintain monetary stability clearly enhanced the framework’s performance. To further improve the effectiveness of monetary policy in the future, we suggest the use of a full-information strategy in formulating monetary policy such as the one employed by the European Central Bank (ECB).
Effect Of Moisture And Loading Orientation On The Mechanical Properties Of Sorghum And Millet, E. L. Lazaro
Effect Of Moisture And Loading Orientation On The Mechanical Properties Of Sorghum And Millet, E. L. Lazaro
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
Uniaxial compression properties of sorghum and millet grain at different moisture contents (12–25% dry basis) and at different kernel orientation were investigated. These included: modulus of deformability, maximum compressive force, deformation and toughness at grain break point. Individual grain kernels of two varieties of sorghum, (Dionje and Jumbo) and one variety of pearl millet, (IM) at 12, 15, 20, and 25% moisture content dry basis (mc.db), were quasi-statically loaded using a J.J.universal tensile testing machine to their breaking point. The modulus of deformability, maximum compressive force required to initiate grain rupture and the grain toughness (energy absorbed at break point …

Potential For Use Of Sand In Road Construction In Dar Es Salaam And Coast Regions, Mfinanga A
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
Coarse aggregates for use in road construction in Dar es Salaam and Coast regions are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive while sand, which is cheaper, is readily available in the two regions. This research aimed at evaluating the possibility of using quarry sands in the two regions as a major constituent material in bituminous road pavement layers. First, the use of sand in sand-bitumen bases for low and medium trafficked roads was studied. The study then continued with the preliminary evaluation of the possible use of the sands in hot rolled asphalt mixes. Results show that Mbagala sand can be …
Sustainable Data Acquisition Methods For Road Maintenance Management In Developing Countries, N. K.M. Mushule
Sustainable Data Acquisition Methods For Road Maintenance Management In Developing Countries, N. K.M. Mushule
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
Whilst it may be argued that manual methods of pavement data collection are subjective, unsafe, involve high personnel costs and have low repeatability, the initial costs of acquiring automated systems coupled with the technology required to operate and maintain them can be prohibitive for most developing countries. Moreover, automatic measurement of surface distress has proved to be a difficult challenge to instrument designers. In many cases, manual methods are the only ones that can be employed. A research project was carried out to design a sustainable data collection scheme for network level management system for developing countries. A simple procedure …
Properties Of Rice Husk Particle Boards Bonded By A Blend Of Tannin-Cnsl Resin, J. V. Tesha
Properties Of Rice Husk Particle Boards Bonded By A Blend Of Tannin-Cnsl Resin, J. V. Tesha
Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)
There are vast quantities of agricultural residues available in Tanzania. Rice husk being amongst those residues is reported to have low resistance to alkalis, high silica content, and have short fibres. These factors have made rice husks not attractive raw materials in panels’ production. However, it has been demonstrated that rice husks can be used to develop panel products of low cost and good performance if appropriate indigenous technologies and affordable binders that can bind siliceous materials are used.
This paper provides a summary on the study of the effectiveness of the binding characteristics of a blend of natural adhesive …

Overview Kebijakan Moneter Dan Aktivitas Ekonomi, Perry Warjiyo
Overview Kebijakan Moneter Dan Aktivitas Ekonomi, Perry Warjiyo
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking

The Optimal Monetary Policy Instruments: The Case Of Indonesia, Yoga Affandi
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
In 1999, the central bank of Indonesia, Bank Indonesia, gained its independence. The new Central Bank Act has established a more explicit foundation for Bank Indonesia’s independence. Firstly, goal independence, in which Bank Indonesia sets its own monetary target. Secondly, instrument independence, in which Bank Indonesia implements various policy instruments to achieve that target. The primary objective of Bank Indonesia (henceforth BI) is to achieve and maintain price stability reflected in a low and stable inflation rate.

Computer Attacks On Critical National Infrastructure: A Use Of Force Invoking The Right Of Self-Defense, Eric Talbot Jensen

Computer networks create tremendously increased capabilities but also represent equally increased vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilites are especially acute in relation to potential attacks on critical national infrasturucture. This Article proposes that international law must evolve to recognize that attacks against a nation's critical national infrastructure from any source constitute a use of force. Such attacks, therefore, give the victim state the right to proportional self-defense - including anticipatory self-defense - even if the computer network attack is not an armed attack under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. Due to the instantaneous nature of computer network attacks, the right to …
