Academic Quality Improvement Project (Aqip) And Accreditation: When Assessment Is Not Optional, Jeffrey Gatten

Librarian Publications & Presentations

A new university accreditation system in the U.S. is known as the Academic Quality Improvement Project (AQIP), developed in 1999 by the North Central Association. AQIP is designed to offer an alternative to current re-accreditation procedures, engaging institutions in a continuous quality improvement process. Kent State University has been selected as one of thirteen initial institutions to participate. All academic units, including the libraries, are required to develop assessment plans that focus on student learning outcomes. Of particular challenge for the libraries is building meaningful assessments that demonstrate direct impacts on student learning.

Gtap-E: An Energy-Environmental Version Of The Gtap Model, Jean-Marc Burniaux, Truong P. Truong

GTAP Technical Papers Archive

Energy is an important commodity in many economic activities. Its usage affects the environment via CO2 emissions and the Greenhouse Effect. Modeling the energy-economy-environment-trade linkages is an important objective in applied economic policy analysis. Previously, however, the modeling of these linkages in GTAP has been incomplete. This is because energy substitution, a key factor in this chain of linkages, is absent from the standard model specification. This technical paper remedies this deficiency by incorporating energy substitution into the standard GTAP model. It begins by first reviewing some of the existing approaches to this problem in contemporary CGE models. It then …

Working With Wildlife: Urban Canada Goose Management, Brian J. Macgowan, Judy S. Loven, Fred Whitford

Historical Documents of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service Archive

Warmer temperatures and longer days of spring also bring an increase in the activities of many species of wildlife, including Canada geese (Branta canadensis). At the turn of the 20th century, Canada geese were almost extirpated from most parts of North America. However, populations of Canada geese have rebounded dramatically, primarily due to the concerted efforts of wildlife mangers across the country and the ability of Canada geese to adapt to habitats found in urban and suburban areas. As human populations increase, so do the conflicts associated with urban/suburban sprawl; and because of this, complaints of goose droppings, lawn damage, …

Metal–Insulator–Semiconductor Electrostatics Of Carbon Nanotubes, Jing Guo, Sebastien Goasguen, Mark S. Lundstrom, Supriyo Datta

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Carbon nanotube metal-insulator-semiconductor capacitors are examined theoretically. For the densely packed array of nanotubes on a planar insulator, the capacitance per tube is reduced due to the screening of the charge on the gate plane by the neighboring nanotubes. In contrast to the silicon metal-oxide-semiconductor capacitors, the calculated C-VC-V curves reflect the local peaks of the one-dimensional density-of-states in the nanotube. This effect provides the possibility to use C-VC-V measurements to diagnose the electronic structures of nanotubes. Results of the electrostatic calculations can also be applied to estimate the upper-limit on-current of carbon nanotube field-effect transistors.

Modeling Of Constriction Resistance In Coated Joints, E. L. Olsen, S V. Garimella, C. V. Madhusudana Jan 2002

Modeling Of Constriction Resistance In Coated Joints, E. L. Olsen, S V. Garimella, C. V. Madhusudana

CTRC Research Publications

Metallic coatings applied to surfaces in contact have been shown to be effective at reducing thermal contact resistance. Contact resistance is primarily caused by the constriction of heat flow as it passes through individual contact spots. Most analyses of coated constrictions have been limited to plane contacts of a semi- infinite cylinder, while an actual constriction terminates in a shape like the frustum of a cone. A numerical model has been developed to determine the constriction resistance of such a coated asperity. The gap between the cone and contact surface is considered to either be evacuated or filled with a …
