Music Piracy And The Audio Home Recording Act, Tia Hall Nov 2002

Music Piracy And The Audio Home Recording Act, Tia Hall

Duke Law & Technology Review

In spite of the guidance provided by the Audio Home Recording Act (AHRA) of 1992, music companies are once again at odds with consumer electronics manufacturers. This time around, the dispute is over certain information technology products that enable consumers to copy digital music and transfer them to different formats, or exchange them over the Internet. This article will discuss anti-piracy measures being taken by digital content owners and the United States legislature to combat piracy and evaluate them in light of the AHRA.

New World Screwworm Synthetic Sex Stimulant, David A. Carlson, Dennis Berkebile, Steven R. Skoda, Kenji Mori

Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications

We report on the characteristics of an ultrafast-laser driven proton beam from thinfilm targets. The difference in proton beam profiles, beam energies, and laser induced back ablation plumes between a dielectric (Mylar) and a conductor (aluminum) are discussed. Evidence for front-side acceleration and a method for beam manipulation are also presented.

Open Meetings Law Violation Invalidates Dairy Zoning Permit, J. David Aiken

Cornhusker Economics

In Nebraska, as in most other states, most actions by public officials are subject to compliance with state public meeting or open meeting law requirements. Failure to comply with open meeting requirements can lead to a court’s declaring the action taken by public officials to be invalid. Such was the case in a zoning decision involving a dairy expansion in Antelope county. Alderman v County of Antelope, 11 NebApp 412 (Sep. 24, 2002).

The New Plagiarism, Aziza Ellozy

Faculty Journal Articles

As a “newcomer” to AUC, I attended this year’s Newcomer’s Orientation program, where plagiarism and cheating were discussed at length in one of the sessions. Although plagiarism is not new, it is apparently on the rise, and is a topic of great concern not only here at AUC, but at institutions of higher learning in the US and the UK among others.
