A Ghost In Europe: Right-Wing Extremism And Its Metamorphoses, Raluca Viviana Stireanu
A Ghost In Europe: Right-Wing Extremism And Its Metamorphoses, Raluca Viviana Stireanu
Masters Theses
The main assumption of this thesis is that fascism is not an historical feature, nor a geographical one. The premises for the rise of fascism are beyond time and space; it can develop anywhere, anytime, in a certain context and under some conditions. These context and these conditions are to be explained and described in this thesis. I will compare the features of fascism in inter-war Europe with those of neo-fascism, and I will also compare the features of Eastern European fascims with those of the Western Europe; the main reason for these comparisons is that it was argued that …
A Survey Of Illinois Speech-Language Pathologists Regarding Sensorimotor Techniques, Patricia Ann Finley
A Survey Of Illinois Speech-Language Pathologists Regarding Sensorimotor Techniques, Patricia Ann Finley
Masters Theses
Research studies have suggested improvement in communication deficit areas when sensory integrative techniques involving sensorimotor stimulation are implemented to facilitate speech-language therapy objectives. Therefore, a questionnaire was designed by the examiner to identify the extent of awareness, training, incorporation, and co-treatment of sensorimotor techniques of Illinois speech-language pathologists. The subjects were also asked to rate the effectiveness of different sensorimotor techniques and to rate the benefits when incorporating sensorimotor techniques into therapy. Subjects consisted of 232 speech-language pathologists who completed the questionnaire.
Results revealed that speech-language pathologists working in rehabilitation had a higher awareness level about sensorimotor techniques than those …

Software And Tool For Analysis Of Manufacturing Processes (Stamp)., Sanket Dilip Mestry
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Performance of any machining process can be evaluated in terms of machining rate. Higher machining rate results in less machining time. This thesis presents a software tool wherein the computation of the process models to predict the process performance indicator such as material removal rate or cutting time, is carried out. The software has parametric models for Conventional Machining Processes, Advanced Machining Processes, Advanced Finishing Processes and Cutting Processes. It allows the user to perform parametric analysis, which assist in understanding the influence of various parameters on the process performance measures. The software can also be used to share process …
Clinton's Democratic Expansion: An Analysis Of U.S. Foreign Aid To Africa, Corey F. Wilson
Clinton's Democratic Expansion: An Analysis Of U.S. Foreign Aid To Africa, Corey F. Wilson
Masters Theses
American foreign aid, and the factors contributing to its disbursement, have frequently been discussed in scholarly research. This issue has also developed into a highly contentious issue in US foreign policy. The purpose of this thesis is to determine if recipient states' human rights practices are a determining factor in the aid allocation process. This thesis will analyze the second term of President Clinton's administration to determine if he consistently implemented his foreign policy agenda of democratic enlargement with regard to foreign aid disbursement to Africa. Two different methodological approaches will be used in this analysis; a pooled time series …

Non-Directive Play Therapy: Past, Present And Future, Jeslina Jayanti Raj
Masters Theses
The paper focuses on the history, research and future directions of non-directive play therapy. According to the history of play therapy, the first person to advocate studying the play of children in order to understand and educate them was Henry Rousseau. The history of play therapy is discussed with further details. Few studies have been done that empirically support the effectiveness of non-directive play therapy and there have been no investigations of therapeutic processes. From a behavioral perspective, it is understood that non-contingent attention in the form of attention, the absence of demands and the environmental richness of the playroom …

The Study Of Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6pd) Gene Regulation In Hepg2 Cells By Glucose Induction And The Study Of G6pd Mrna Localization By Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (Fish)., Brian Nelson Griffith
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
HepG2 cells were used as a model system to study the regulation of glucose-6- phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD). Regulation of hepatic G6PD expression involves changes in the amount of G6PD pre-mRNA in the nucleus in the absence of changes in the transcription rate of the gene. G6PD expression is increased in HepG2 cells incubated with increasing glucose concentrations. G6PD mRNA is increased 3- to 4- fold by incubation in 25 mM glucose, as compared to 0 mM glucose. To determine the cis-acting element involved in this regulation, HepG2 cells were stably transfected with G6PD genomic DNA composed of exons 7 through …

"We are all segregated in the prison of class," mused turn-of-the-century literature professor Vida Dutton Scudder. "More than we recognize, our inner life is shaped by the traditions of the group to which we happen to belong; and until we escape from such prison, at least through imagination, or better far through personal contacts, our culture is bound to remain tragically cramped and incomplete" (On Journey 67-68). In innovative literature courses, Scudder offered college students escapes from their class prisons through "imagination." She facilitated "personal contacts" by encouraging students to work with people of other classes and races in inner-city …

Comparing Precaution In The United States And Europe, Jonathan B. Wiener, Michael D. Rogers
Faculty Scholarship
The regulation of health and environmental risks has generated transatlantic controversy concerning precaution and the precautionary principle (PP). Conventional wisdom sees the European Union endorsing the PP and proactively regulating uncertain risks, while the United States opposes the PP and waits for evidence of harm before regulating. Without favouring either approach, this paper critically analyses the conventional depiction of transatlantic divergence. First, it reviews several different versions of the PP and their different implications. Second, it broadens the transatlantic comparison of precaution beyond the typical focus on single-risk examples, such as genetically modified foods. Through case studies, including hormones in …

Exposure Drafts, Comment Letters, and Statements of Position
In recent years, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) have required entities to significantly increase the use of fair value for measuring, presenting, and disclosing in their financial statements assets, liabilities, and specific components of equity. The business environment and GAAP that apply to the transactions and events in that environment have become more complex. Along with that complexity and the increased use of fair value measurements and disclosures comes an increasing acknowledgment of the importance of fair values in the financial reporting process. The ASB believes that a Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) providing overall guidance on auditing considerations relating …

Treaty Fishing Rights: A Habitat Right As Part Of The Trinity Of Rights Implied By The Fishing Clause Of The Stevens Treaties, O. Yale Lewis Iii
American Indian Law Review
The fishing right guaranteed by the fishing clause of the Stevens Treaties between the United States and the Indians of Western Washington should be considered a trinity of rights: a right of access, a right of equitable apportionment, and a habitat right. While seven different Supreme Court decisions and scores of lower court decisions examine the contours of the first two elements of the fishing right, the contours of the final element of the right remain unsettled. No appeals court has ruled on whether there, is an implied habitat right. While some trial courts have skirted the issue, only one …
