Gasmak2 Model For Longwall Gob Gas Emission, Qinghua Jin Dec 2002

Gasmak2 Model For Longwall Gob Gas Emission, Qinghua Jin

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

This thesis discusses the development and improvement of an empirical model---GASMAK2, that describes methane control requirements for the longwalling coal in gassy areas. This is not a theoretical model; it uses an empirically determined gas emission rate as an input. The computer program divides Longwall panels into segments, keeps track of the face advance and generates emission rates and volumes for both the entire panel and for individual zones within the panel. This model is Windows-based, uses the full capabilities of the Windows environment to provide a user-friendly program, and can aid in the determination of the number, size and …

Introduction

Anthropological archaeologists have long recognized that the nature of the archeological record at a “site”, defined spatially and by artifact assemblage, is sometimes the result of hundreds of years of intermittent and diverse activities by unrelated individuals or kin groups. Many “sites” with observable remains of prehistoric or historic Native American activities are places amenable to contemporary use by individuals in an era of sophisticated mobility. These means of moving about the landscape often result in increased use of a place …

The Effects Of Communication Modality On Teamwork Processes, Thomas D. Fletcher Oct 2002

The Effects Of Communication Modality On Teamwork Processes, Thomas D. Fletcher

Psychology Theses & Dissertations

Since the onset of the digital age, organizations have been able to make use of teams of individuals distributed geographically to remain competitive. While strides have been made to understand the effectiveness of collocated teams, research has yet to sufficiently explore the effects of emerging technologies on team processes and effectiveness. A laboratory study, where dyads were asked to create a spreadsheet by following a set of explicit instructions (i.e., a psychomotor task), was conducted to manipulate the communication modalities most commonly used between collaborators (i.e., face-to-face vs. audio) and compare the effects of adding a shared workspace application. The …
