A Theoretical Proposal For Reaching Irreligious Czech People Through A Mission Revitalization Movement, Petr Činčala Jan 2002

A Theoretical Proposal For Reaching Irreligious Czech People Through A Mission Revitalization Movement, Petr Činčala

Dissertations

The main goal of this study was to develop a theory of missionary outreach to unchurched Czech people which is biblically informed and culturally relevant. The theoretical proposal for a plausible model of churching in the Czech Republic builds on basic theological, philosophical, and conceptual assumptions (chapter 2), a societal analysis of the problem of Czech churching (chapter 3), and a review of the issues relating to the situation of existing churches and religious movements.

Based on Wallace’s theory of revitalization movements a model is developed for starting a missionary movement that aims at reaching today’s unchurched and seemingly irreligious …

Home Health Care Nurses' Knowledge Of Advance Directives, Jennifer L. Zoeteman

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study was to describe home health care nurses' knowledge of advance directives. Dorothea Orem's Theory of Self-Care guided this descriptive correlational study which investigated the relationship between knowledge of advance directives and the variables of nursing educational preparation and years of nursing experience. A convenience sample of 40 subjects employed by a Michigan home care agency completed a 39 item questionnaire adapted from Crego and Lipp (1998). The mean knowledge score was 84.68%. Analysis of the demographic profile showed no significant difference in knowledge levels by educational preparation. Years of nursing experience was found to have …

Nursing leadership is needed to provide guidance and support to individuals using CAT Nurse-client relationships that center on therapeutic alliance may be a vehicle for supporting appropriate use of CAT as self-care and dependent care modalities. Eighty-seven mothers whose asthmatic children were involved in a 6-month glyconutritional supplementation trial were surveyed to evaluate their perceptions of therapeutic alliance using the Kim Alliance Scale (KAS). Greater that 90% of the sample perceived therapeutic alliance most of the time in relationship with the …

Case Studies Of Pre- And Mid-Trial Prejudice In Criminal And Civil Litigation, Neil Vidmar Jan 2002

Case Studies Of Pre- And Mid-Trial Prejudice In Criminal And Civil Litigation, Neil Vidmar

Faculty Scholarship

This article presents a number of case studies involving pre- and mid-trial prejudice in criminal and civil litigation. The cases reveal deficiencies in the way that prejudicial publicity has been conceptualized and operationalized in many simulation experiments. The studies reveal that potential juror prejudices that concern lawyers and judges involve more than just main effects of mass media. Pre- and mid-trial prejudice also involves more general prejudices, gossip and rumor, the assertion of community normative values about justice, and conformity pressures. Four categories of prejudice recognized in American law are described and labeled: interest, specific, generic and conformity prejudice. The …

An Explanation Of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Erica Poole Jan 2002

An Explanation Of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Erica Poole

Honors Capstones

Through a review of literature, this paper will provide an explanation of multiple chemical sensitivity. Multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) is characterized by a low-level exposure to environmental chemicals resulting in multi organ symptoms reported by the patient. The diagnosis of MCS is difficult to come about because MCS is unknown to many medical professionals or is not recognized as an illness by others. Also, there exists no single diagnostic test to confirm multiple chemical sensitivity. The etiology of MCS is unknown and often can cause great debate between being a physiological disorder or a psychological disorder or a combination of …

Biological Reduction Of Perchlorate In Ion Exchange Regenerant Solutions Containing High Salinity And Ammonium Levels, Tina M. Gingras, Jacimaria R. Batista Jan 2002

Biological Reduction Of Perchlorate In Ion Exchange Regenerant Solutions Containing High Salinity And Ammonium Levels, Tina M. Gingras, Jacimaria R. Batista

Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction Faculty Research

The most promising technologies to remove perchlorate from water are ion exchange and biological reduction. Although successful, ion exchange only separates perchlorate from water; it does not eliminate it from the environment. The waste streams from these systems contain the caustic or saline regenerant solutions used in the process as well as high levels of perchlorate. Biological reduction could be used to treat the regenerant waste solutions from the ion exchange process. A treatment scheme, combining ion exchange and biodegradation, is proposed to completely remove perchlorate from the environment. Perchlorate-laden resins generate brines containing salt concentrations up to 6% or …

The Electronic Jungle: The Application Of Intellectual Property Law To Distance Education, Jon Garon Jan 2002

The Electronic Jungle: The Application Of Intellectual Property Law To Distance Education, Jon Garon

Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment & Technology Law

The tension between academic institutions as creators and consumers of intellectual property seems to be most directly felt in the new areas of distance education. Despite the significant opportunities to use new media to expand the reach of the classroom to an ever-growing body of students, concerns regarding copyright, trademark and defamation law continue to limit and dictate what schools attempt to do. These limitations are more directly felt by individual instructors, who must enforce appropriate usage policies for their students, create copyrighted materials and negotiate with their schools over the ownership of the valuable content created.

Book Publishing In The Age Of The E-Book, Nancy B. Vermylen Jan 2002

Book Publishing In The Age Of The E-Book, Nancy B. Vermylen

Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment & Technology Law

Whatever role e-publishing is ultimately to assume in the publishing world, its emergence calls for the (re)evaluation of significant legal issues affecting the contractual relationship of authors and publishers. This Note identifies some of those issues, and where appropriate, suggests some tentative solutions. Part II of this Note sets e-publishing and the concerns it raises in context by providing a brief discussion of the traditional book publishing industry and the roles that publishing contracts and personal relationships play in that industry. Part III provides an introduction to the emerging world of e-publishing and e-books. Part IV discusses the legal issues …

Co-Productions: The Future Feature, Jenica Yurcic Jan 2002

Co-Productions: The Future Feature, Jenica Yurcic

Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment & Technology Law

This Article argues that California should devise an incentive plan to attract film production projects rather than take a defensive posture to deter film flight. The objective of the incentive plan is to consolidate government funding while capitalizing on California's film marketing and distribution expertise, as well as the growing demand for digital post-production services. In an increasingly global film industry, this incentive plan would lower the bottom-line of international productions. The prospect of earning increased profits through international production efforts should attract more business to the California film industry. However, while such a business plan is easy to envision, …

A Preferred Vision For Administering Elementary Schools : A Reflective Essay, Tony R. Hiatt

Graduate Research Papers

Each day, various sources of input develop innovative ideas that could have a positive impact on education, and it is vital that all professional members of education listen to the ideas that are produced and reflect on them. Educators make these contributions by keeping an open mind and maximizing opportunities for children to grow socially and academically through positive experiences during their lives.

In education, we are preparing young people to practice life skills effectively in order to make a community a safe, pleasant place for everybody to live. As an administrator, I hope to serve as an educational leader …
