The Representation Of Aboriginal English In School Literacy Materials, Ian G. Malcolm, Ellen Grote, Louella Eggington, Farzad Sharifian Jan 2002

The Representation Of Aboriginal English In School Literacy Materials, Ian G. Malcolm, Ellen Grote, Louella Eggington, Farzad Sharifian

Research outputs pre 2011

Australian education systems have, as a whole, had limited success in attempting to impart literacy in standard English to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. One measure of the magnitude of the problem is shown in the national figures relating student achievement at various levels to agreed benchmarks. It has been shown that the Year 3 benchmarks have been achieved by fewer than two thirds of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, whereas they have been achieved by nearly 90% of the national school population overall (Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs, 1999). With respect to reading, …

Assessment Of Pollution Load For Approved Eia Projects In The Industrial Sector (1988-1998) In Malaysia, Kok Sia Teng

Student Works (2000-2009)

It is generally recognised that developing countries lacked quantitative decision support tools in the formulation and implementation of pollution control measures necessary to abate environmental impacts associated with industrial development. Reliable and comprehensive simulation models are needed as basic tools for the quantification of industrial pollutant emission load, the assessment of their impacts on the environment as well as the evaluation of pollution control options. As a response to this inadequacy, this research project is conducted as an initial endeavor to use the World Bank's industrial pollution projection program Decision Support System for Integrated Pollution Control (DSS/IPC) for the assessment …

An empirical study was performed to investigate the relative weights and priorities of these criteria and benefits. An AHP decision model of EMS adoption was …

Formation Of Copper Dots In Copper Decoration Technique, Swee Yong Pung Jan 2002

Formation Of Copper Dots In Copper Decoration Technique, Swee Yong Pung

Student Works (2000-2009)

Copper ions are dissolved from highly pure copper plate into the methanol during copper decoration process. As a result, copper concentration in methanol is increased with time. The copper concentration in methanol measured by ICP-OES is correlated well with the calculated value based on the magnitude of current and time during the process. Consequently, higher magnitude of current can be applied to build up copper concentration in methanol in shorter period. When copper ions are ejected in methanol, they are positively charged. They experience force from electric field and migrate towards oxide surface. Eventually, these copper ions will be discharged …

A Conceptual Model Relating The Quasi-Biennial Oscillation And The Troposheric Biennial Oscillation, Kok Foo Kwan

Student Works (2000-2009)

A survey of the zonal wind throughout the troposphere and the lower stratosphere near the equator is made for the 41-year period of 1958-98. A similar survey of the 500- hPa geopotential height, sea surface temperature (SST) and tropopause height is also made, except that the survey period for the tropopause height is shorter than 41 years due to unavailability of data. Other than the well-known Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO) feature in the lower stratosphere and the Tropospheric Biennial Oscillation (TBO) feature exhibited by the SST, similar oscillation features are found throughout the whole troposphere by both surveys. Autocorrelation functions, Pearson …

Advancement of technology and globalization pressure cause a lot of companies seek for a better manufacturing technology and operation management. One of the latest management tools that become hot topics to overcome this issue is Supply Chain Management. About 50 years ago, Forrester (1958) introduced a new theory of cross function management, but it was not been given much attention until last 10 years. Supply chain is not something new to the operation management. The differences of Forrester theory is the synergy of all operation management to get a dynamics and better result that is why the word of "management" …

Observations And Modelling Of The Near Equatorial Tropical Atmospheric Boundary Layer, Aiman Abdalla Soleiman Jan 2002

Observations And Modelling Of The Near Equatorial Tropical Atmospheric Boundary Layer, Aiman Abdalla Soleiman

Student Works (2000-2009)

Existing models developed to simulate the evolution of the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) have focused on the conditions prevalent in mid-latitude regions. The problem for these models in terms of their application to tropical conditions is that the mid-latitude ABL is, in many respects, physically quite different from that of the tropical ABL. Because of this, and due also to the relative lack of relevant atmospheric observations in tropical areas, the tropical ABL is incorrectly represented in such models, and also in various applications that use the mid-latitude ABL representation (for example, air pollution dispersion models). A recent review of …

Preparation Of Pvc- Clay Nanocomposites By Solution Blending, Dongyan Wang, Charles A. Wilkie Jan 2002

Preparation Of Pvc- Clay Nanocomposites By Solution Blending, Dongyan Wang, Charles A. Wilkie

Chemistry Faculty Research and Publications

PVC-clay nanocomposites have been prepared by solution blending of the polymer with both sodium montmorillonite and an organically modified clay. The nanocomposites have been characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy; in all cases the materials are best described as mixed immiscible—intercalated nanocomposites, Thermogravimetric analysis shows that, in some cases, the onset temperature of the degradation is enhanced, and the fraction of nonvolatile residue is always decreased. This decrease in the amount of char indicates a significant change in the degradation pathway of the polymer, caused by the presence of the clay. For some preparations, the tensile strength and …
