Environmental Federalism In The United States And The European Union: A Harmonic Convergence, Alfred R. Light
Environmental Federalism In The United States And The European Union: A Harmonic Convergence, Alfred R. Light
St. Thomas Law Review
In 1788, Benjamin Franklin wrote to some European friends just after the United States Constitution was signed in Philadelphia, "I send you. . . the proposed new federal Constitution for these states [i]f it succeeds, I do not see why you might not in Europe [do the same] by forming a Federal Union and one grand republic of all the different states and kingdoms; by means of a like Convention, for we had many interests to reconcile." Here, in the twenty-first century, Americans still measure their system of federalism with reference to the same document to which Franklin referred. It …

The New Institutional Italian Organization: The Federalism - The Experience Of Other European States And The U.S. System, Nerio Marino
St. Thomas Law Review
In 1860 Italy turned into a nation, indeed one year later, on March, 17, the Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed under the Savoy Royal Family. However the unity of Italy was completed only in 1866, with the annexation of Veneto and definitely in 1870 with the conquest of Rome. Since then the Boot (Italy), more than any other European country, have had all the premises to become a federal state.

Dr. John Hays was formally inaugurated as the 16th president of the university on December 5, 2001. In July 2001, Hays replaced Dr. Joe Anna Hibler, who retired after 10 years as president. State legislators, the Oklahoma Regents for Higher Education, Faculty, Staff and representatives from the Weatherford community were present at the occasion. Others included were students and family. Fifteen student ambassadors were chosen along with ushers from the Student Government Association. The Weatherford String Quartet provided the reception music. G02-1444 Medical Sharps Disposal From Livestock Operations, Dicky D. Griffin, Marilyn Buhman
G02-1444 Medical Sharps Disposal From Livestock Operations, Dicky D. Griffin, Marilyn Buhman
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
This NebGuide explains how to properly dispose of medical sharps (hypodermic needles and scalpel blades) for livestock operations. Understanding this is critical for employee safety and environmental stewardship.
Disposing livestock medical sharps presents two concerns. The first is human safety. Handling livestock medical sharps presents a potential employee safety concern and as such is addressed within the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. Second, the disposal of livestock medical sharps presents an environmental hazard and as such is addressed within the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.

The European Union's Commitment To Sustainable Development: Is The Commitment Symbolic Or Substantive In The Context Of Transport Policy?, Don C. Smith
Sturm College of Law: Faculty Scholarship
This article argues that in some instances the EU is committed to sustainable development and is actively engaged in substantive actions to achieve it, while in other instances, notwithstanding an outward com- mitment to sustainable development, the commitment is more symbolic than substantive. The article concludes that the effort to integrate sus- tainable development into the CTP is beginning to achieve results and that, in any case, the EU has established a world leadership position with respect to sustainable development, a position that it would be ill-advised to abandon.
