Regulating Functional Foods: Pre- And Post-Market Strategy, Dana Ziker Nov 2002

Regulating Functional Foods: Pre- And Post-Market Strategy, Dana Ziker

Duke Law & Technology Review

As best we understand the government, its first argument runs along the following lines: that health claims lacking "significant scientific agreement" are inherently misleading because they have such an awesome impact on consumers as to make it virtually impossible for them to exercise any judgment at the point of sale. It would be as if the consumers were asked to buy something while hypnotized, and therefore they are bound to be misled. We think this contention is almost frivolous.

Cross Section For Forward J/Ψ Production In Pp̅ Collisions At √S=1.8 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Nov 2002

Cross Section For Forward J/Ψ Production In Pp̅ Collisions At √S=1.8 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

The inclusive cross section for J/ψ production times the branching ratio B(J/ψ→μ+μ-) has been measured in the forward pseudorapidity region: B×dσ[p̅+p→J/ψ(pT>10 GeV/c,2.1<|η|<2.6)+X]/dη=192±9(stat)±29(syst) pb. The results are based on 74.1±5.2 pb-1 of data collected by the CDF Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The measurements extend earlier measurements of the D0 Collaboration to higher pTJ/ψ. In the kinematic range where the experiments partially overlap, these data are in good agreement with previous measurements.

Stoneflies (Plecoptera) Of Southern Utah With An Updated Checklist Of Utah Species, Ronald G. Call, Richard W. Baumann Nov 2002

Stoneflies (Plecoptera) Of Southern Utah With An Updated Checklist Of Utah Species, Ronald G. Call, Richard W. Baumann

Monographs of the Western North American Naturalist

Southern Utah comprises 4 major physiographic divisions: the Great Basin, Colorado Plateau, Central Rocky Mountains, and Southern Rocky Mountains, which have been partitioned into faunal regions. We discuss the uniqueness of southern Utah and the amount of land set aside for recreation and preservation, and we encourage the study and preservation of its water resources. The stonefly (Plecoptera) fauna of 13 counties in southern Utah was surveyed. We found 58 species representing 34 genera and 8 families. Three new state records for Utah and many new county records for southern Utah are presented, along with a discussion of distribution patterns …

A complete listing of these taxa and intergrades is provided, with published and new records from the state and type localities. Cylindroiulus caeruleocinctus (Wood), C. truncorum (Silvestri), Ophyiulus pilosus (Newport) (all Julida: Julidae), and Opiona fisheri Gardner and Shelley (Chordeumatida: Caseyidae) are newly recorded from California. The new combination Atopetholus wheeleri (Chamberlin) is proposed.

At some time between 05:50 and 05:55 whilst travelling south, the rear right wheel of the 110 detonated an AT mine. The incident occurred after the rear right wheel of the [Demining group] Land Rover 110 travelled over the top of an anti-tank mine, possibly a Belgian PRB-M3 minimum metal anti-tank mine buried at depth of less than 10cm, causing it to detonate. A Circumpolar Perspective On Fluvial Sediment Flux To The Arctic Ocean, Robert M. Holmes, James W. Mcclelland, Bruce J. Peterson

Faculty Publications

Quantification of sediment fluxes from rivers is fundamental to understanding land‐ocean linkages in the Arctic. Numerous publications have focused on this subject over the past century, yet assessments of temporal trends are scarce and consensus on contemporary fluxes is lacking. Published estimates vary widely, but often provide little accessory information needed to interpret the differences. We present a pan‐arctic synthesis of sediment flux from 19 arctic rivers, primarily focusing on contributions from the eight largest ones. For this synthesis, historical records and recent unpublished data were compiled from Russian, Canadian, and United States sources. Evaluation of these data revealed no …
