Parental attitudes of children with and without disabilities concerning inclusion are essential factors in the implementation of inclusion programs. This study examines the attitudes of parents of children without disabilities in a private school setting, towards inclusion of children with disabilities. Forty-nine parents of children with no identified disabilities were surveyed. All of these children attended a private day school. A 20-item questionnaire was utilized to examine parents' perceptions of inclusion. The data suggest parents feel children with disabilities benefit academically and socially from inclusion in a private school setting. Results also indicate that parents of children without disabilities generally …

Further Investigation Of Mental Tris-Quinolates Using Spectroscopy, Asanga Devinda Ranasinghe Jan 2002

Further Investigation Of Mental Tris-Quinolates Using Spectroscopy, Asanga Devinda Ranasinghe

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Structure of aluminum tris-8-hydroxyquinoline (Alq3) and other metal tris-quinolates (Mq3) in vapor deposited films in organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) is not well established due to the possibility of existing two geometric isomeric forms, meridianal and facial. We present a comparative analysis of 1H and 13C NMR of nMeq3M's (n = 0, 2, 4, 5) made from thermal sublimation, in a polar as well as a non-polar solvent to investigate possible evidences for the isomer distribution, stability of the metal chelate in the presence of a polar solvent and crystal structure determination for pure Inq 3 using single-crystal x-ray diffraction …

Evidence For Virgin Anasazi Presence In The Las Vegas Valley And Adjacent Areas, Susanne Janine Rowe Jan 2002

Evidence For Virgin Anasazi Presence In The Las Vegas Valley And Adjacent Areas, Susanne Janine Rowe

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Olivine-tempered ceramics are a characteristic artifact of Virgin Anasazi culture. The ceramics are found in the Las Vegas area, more than 70 km west of permanent Anasazi settlements in the Moapa Valley. Little is known regarding Anasazi utilization of this area, since most investigators have focused on the permanent settlements. I examined 25 ceramic assemblages from the Las Vegas vicinity, calculated the frequencies of olivine-tempered sherds in each, and noted the geographical distribution of the wares. The evidence does not support down-the-line exchange, but shows concentrations of olivine-tempered wares in the north Las Vegas Valley, Paradise Valley, and further west …

Spectroscopic Abundances Of Solar-Type Dwarfs In Open Cluster M34 (Ngc 1039), Simon Charles Schuler Jan 2002

Spectroscopic Abundances Of Solar-Type Dwarfs In Open Cluster M34 (Ngc 1039), Simon Charles Schuler

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Parameters and relative abundances of Fe, Ni, Ti, Cr, Ca, Si, Al, and Mg have been derived for nine M34 G and K dwarfs from high-resolution, modest S/N, Keck/HIRES spectra. Effective temperatures have been derived spectroscopically and fall in the range 4750 ≤ Teff ≤ 6130 K. Despite modest scatter in Fe, Ti, Cr, Ca, Al, and Mg (none of which is found to be correlated with Li scatter in M34), our two coolest stars are slightly though consistently underabundant in these elements relative to the warmer stars. The two cool stars are slightly overabundant in Si, whose abundances are …

Alternate Path Routing Algorithm For Traffic Engineering In The Internet, Shyam Subramanian Jan 2002

Alternate Path Routing Algorithm For Traffic Engineering In The Internet, Shyam Subramanian

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Data flowing through the internet continues to grow every year. Increase in traffic demands increase in bandwidth. But bandwidth1 does not grow as fast as the traffic. This leads to congestion in the network and performance degradation. One way to avoid this problem is to use efficient routing algorithm that efficiently maps the flow of data onto the network; The most often used routing algorithm in the internet is the shortest path algorithm (Dijkstra's algorithm). This algorithm is simple and easy to implement. But this algorithm leads to over-utilization of part of the network, while the other part remains under-utilized. …

Partitioning A Given Circuit Targeting Multiple Fpgas, Girish Narayanan Cherussery Jan 2002

Partitioning A Given Circuit Targeting Multiple Fpgas, Girish Narayanan Cherussery

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Our approach to the problem of partitioning the design (represented as a hypergraph) into Multi-FPGAs uses a bi-level approach by initially clustering the design and then applying the bipartitioning technique iteratively. Each partition generated by the iterative bipartitioning technique should meet the constraints given by the FPGAs input-output and number of CLBs. The traditional FM partitioning can be applied to partition the circuit into multiple FPGAs. FM partitioning aims to minimize the number of interconnections but fails to group the nodes with maximum interconnections into one partition. Thus FM algorithm looks at the partitioning problem with a global viewpoint, abandoning …

Contemporary Pseudo-Events: An Analysis Of The Advertising In "Wired" Magazine, Guy Joseph Schackman

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The dot-corn and technology boom of the mid-to-late 1990s captured the imagination of the public in both the way they thought about and invested in the future. This study looks at the role the advertising of Wired magazine played in promoting the dot-com boom. Daniel Boorstin (1987) claims that pseudo-events, or events that are manufactured, set society's expectations to levels that cannot be attained. This study examines 75 advertisements taken from issues of Wired published in 1995 and uses criteria outlined by Boorstin to determine if these advertisements are pseudo-events. Traits of the design of Wired magazine framed by Stewart …

A Dynamic Simulation Model Of Beach Sand Replenishment: A Case Study Of Santa Barbara, California, David Turbow, Steve Norwick, Sajjad Ahmad

Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction Faculty Research

Sediment deprivation from dam installments contributes to beach erosion yet the underlying physical and economic factors linking them together have traditionally been isolated during regional planning. In order to gain a better understanding of the behavior of a managed beach system, a dynamic simulation model was developed incorporating physical and monetary factors influencing the amount of available beach sand. The Santa Barbara littoral cell was chosen as a case study to evaluate the feasibility of beach preservation goals under scenarios in which annual sand replenishment funding, sand prices, or sediment recovery from behind dams were limiting factors to available beach …

A Case Study Of Writing Skills Growth Of Three Eighth-Grade Students In A Writing Workshop Classroom, Thomas B Smith

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

Writing samples were collected over an eight month period from three 8th grade students. Using these samples along with student-teacher conference notes and the results of a literacy interview, the writing growth of each student was analyzed. Each student shows development of strong writing skills and an ability to discuss this growth in an articulate manner using written samples to back up their claims. The areas of growth identified by the teacher/researcher did not necessarily match those identified by the students. This mismatch is partially a result of the ways in which each student hid or abdicated her role as …
