Although there is a large body of work on cryptographic techniques and algorithms that provide basic building blocks to solve specific security problems, relatively little work has been done in investigating security issues in mobile system contexts. Conventional security controls work well for static code, but break down with code mobility. In this paper, we investigate the need for end-to-end security in mobile and wireless operating systems. We study the implications of mobility - specifically, ways in which the operating system may facilitate communication security. We suggest a framework for designing security into mobile devices by building encryption into the …

Robert Theodore Stafford was born in Rutland, Vermont on August 8, 1913 and educated in the public schools of Rutland. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1935 and attended the University of Michigan Law School. He graduated from the Boston University Law School in 1938. He served as Rutland County prosecuting attorney from 1938 to 1942. During World War II, from 1942 to 1946, he was a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy. He also served during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953 and was a captain in the United States Navy Reserve. He was Rutland County State’s …

A tunable, solid state laser device with both visible and infrared laser emission is developed with a trivalent ytterbium-doped yttrium calcium oxyborate crystal as the host crystal. The Yb:YCOB crystal generates an infrared fundamental light over a wide bandwidth, from approximately 980 nanometers (nm) to approximately 1100 nm. The bandwidth generated by the Yb:YCOB crystal is approximately 100 nm wide and supports the generation of pulsed infrared light or when self-frequency doubled provides a compact, efficient, source of tunable, visible, blue or green laser light in wavelengths of approximately 490 nm to approximately 550 nm.

This disclosure relates to a laser communication system which allows changing the direction of reception and transmission without external manipulation of the system container. The basic unit of the system is a narrow-band transmitting-receiving telescope apparatus which includes a rotating diffraction grating and an independently rotating stage with mounted combination of photodetector for reception and laser for transmission and a focusing system concentrating the beam reflected from the grating onto the photodetector of the combination or sending a beam from laser of the combination onto the grating. Analysis Of Mitotic Microtubule-Associated Proteins Using Mass Spectrometry Identifies Astrin, A Spindle-Associated Protein, Gary J. Mack, Duane A. Compton

We purified microtubules from a mammalian mitotic extract and obtained an amino acid sequence from each microtubule-associated protein by using mass spectrometry. Most of these proteins are known spindle-associated components with essential functional roles in spindle organization. We generated antibodies against a protein identified in this collection and refer to it as astrin because of its association with astral microtubule arrays assembled in vitro. Astrin is approximately 134 kDa, and except for a large predicted coiled-coil domain in its C-terminal region it lacks any known functional motifs. Astrin associates with spindle microtubules as early as prophase where it concentrates at …
