This Quarterly Report is a primary deliverable from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Advanced Accelerator Applications (AAA) University Participation Program (UPP) Director to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as described in the UNLV AAA proposal and Statement of Work for the Third Quarter.

The UNLV AAA UPP Director implements the program’s administration using staff from the Harry Reid Center for Environmental Studies (HRC) to ensure that work conducted under the UNLV AAA UPP meets program objectives. The UNLV AAA UPP consists of three components: Program Support, Research Infrastructure Augmentation, and Student Research.

The Emplacement Age Of Gabbroic Rocks And Associated Granitoids Of The Liganga-Msanyo Complex, South Eastern Tanzania, M. A. H. Maboko

The Msanyo Gabbro and the associated Mdando granitoids, which intrude Paleoproterozoic high-grade metamorphic rocks of the Ubendian Belt in southern Tanzania, yield imprecise Sm-Nd whole rock isochron ages of 1608±134 Ma (ε (Nd) = 2.1) and 1642±100 Ma (ε (Nd) = 1.6), respectively. These ages are indistinguishable at the 95% confidence level, indicating that the two rock suites were intruded at the same time. A more precise estimate of the time of emplacement is provided by a 5-point mineral isochron age of 1505±42 obtained from one of the gabbro samples. Tectonic Setting And Uplift Analysis Of The Pangani Rift Basin In Northern Tanzania Using Apatite Fission Track Thermochronology, E. I. Mbede

Thirty four new Apatite Fission Track (AFT) ages and 32 track length distributions from samples of basement rocks flanking the Pangani rift, East African Rift System (EARS) are presented, in an attempt to elucidate the uplift and erosion of the rift flanks. The ages fall in the range of 207±15 to 48±4 Ma, spanning from Early Jurassic to Early Tertiary. These ages are much younger than the last termal event in the Mozambique belt that form the basement complex and are interpreted to represent the most recent tectonic events. Corporate law expresses a profound ambiguity toward the role of shareholders. Courts announce that shareholders are critical to the theory that legitimates the exercise of power - by directors and officers over vast aggregations of property that they do not own. At the same time shareholders have a very difficult time actually making any corporate decisions. In this Article, we strive to define a new role for shareholders by drawing on economic theories of the firm and the structure of corporate law. Requires state to reimburse local governments for costs, reduced revenues, funds, or amount paid by or charged to that local government for state requirements that: create new programs or higher service levels in existing programs; increase local government's share of jointly funded programs; reduce local government's share of local taxes, fees, vehicle license fees; reduce revenues from fines and forfeitures; or modify special fund allocations. Permits Legislature to suspend local government reimbursement for two fiscal years in 10 year period. Creates presumption local government entitled to reimbursement. The static and dynamic indentation of structural elements such as beams and plates continue to be intriguing problems, especially for scenarios where large area contacts are expected to occur. Standard methods of indentation analyses use a beam theory solution to obtain an overall load-displacement relationship and then a Hertzian contact solution to calculate local stresses under the indenter. However, these techniques are only applicable in a fairly limited class of problems: the stress distribution in the contact region will differ significantly from a Hertzian one when the contact length exceeds the thickness of the beam.
