In Pahang, the zakat collection system was privatized in January 1996 where the responsibility was given to the Pusat Kutipan Zakat Pahang (PKZP). The company is owned by the Majlis Ugama Islam Dan Adat Resam Melayu Pahang (MUIP) which controls 51 percent of the major shares and the remaining is owned by AI-Zakat Sdn. Bhd. (49 percent). Hence, this dissertation aims to study the impact of the establishment of PKZP on the management of zakat in the state. Fabrication And Application Of Fiber Bragg Grating, Wadi Harun Sulaiman

This dissertation presents the fabrication, characterization and application of short period fiber Bragg grating (FBG). The FBG is inscribed on high germania boron co-doped optical fiber by phase mask method with a 244nm continuous wave frequency doubled Argon ion laser as a laser source. The FBGs with reflectivity ranging from 98 -99.9%, bandwidth of 0.3 ~ 0.9nm and center wavelength of 1552.5 - 1553.5nm have been fabricated successfully with this method. The time taken for these inscriptions are within 10 to 30 minutes depending on alignment. The fabricated FBGs are characterized using both fiber amplifier (broadband source) and tunable laser …

The volume of traditional assessments in the public schools of the United States has increased. At the same time, complaints about the use of standardized tests have become louder. The complaints and dissatisfaction have led to a paradigm shift in assessment. Available literature supports the use of alternative assessment. The purpose of this study was to describe and analyze the type and the extent of authentic assessment used in public school physical education. A second purpose was to investigate physical education teachers' perceptions about the impact of authentic assessment use on students' self-concept, motivation, and skill achievement.

El Cenizo's Spanish language ordinance is likely to survive a constitutional challenge. The City Council of El Cenizo’s Spanish language ordinance, however, has generated a significant amount of controversy in the United States. The ordinance stipulates that all city council meetings will be made in the city’s predominant language—Spanish. Critics argue that the ordinance has made Spanish the official language. Critics also argue that the ordinance is discriminatory toward English speakers. Texas landowners face a heavy burden in bringing claims for damages arising out of inherently undiscoverable damages to mineral estates because the statute of limitations starts at the time of injury rather than the time of discovery. Previously, courts adopted the discovery rule as an exception to the statute of limitations, effectively stalling the starting point of the statute of limitations. A two-pronged threshold inquiry is held before the application of the discovery rule. First, the court must determine if the injury is inherently undiscoverable or not detected despite the use of due diligence. Secondly, there must be objectively verifiable …

This study was designed to describe selected characteristics of certified substance abuse counselors in the state of lowa. Specifically, the following characteristics were considered: education, age, gender, length of time in profession, salary range, and if the counselor considers himself/herself recovering or not. Also, substance abuse treatment approaches, knowledge, and experiences of the substance abuse counselors were compiled. A questionnaire was designed and sent to 224 substance abuse counselors in Iowa. Sixty useable questionnaires were returned yielding a 26. 78% return rate. The results of this study indicated a majority (95.0%) of the respondents were over the age of 30 …

This article, to be submitted to the national journal, Gifted Child Today, explores how Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences Theory (MI) specifically affects the development and delivery of gifted education. Included are discussions of the definitions on MI and giftedness programming and how each approach identification, curriculum and instruction. Three popular gifted education models are viewed through the lens of MI are Autonomous Learner Model (ALM), Talent Identification and Development in Education (TIDE) and Three Ring Conception of Giftedness.
