Teaching The Origins Controversy: Science, Or Religion, Or Speech?, David K. Dewolf, Stephen C. Meyer, Mark Edward Deforrest
Teaching The Origins Controversy: Science, Or Religion, Or Speech?, David K. Dewolf, Stephen C. Meyer, Mark Edward Deforrest
Utah Law Review
One can hardly imagine a more contentious issue in the American culture wars than the debate over how biological origins should be taught in the public schools. On the one hand, the National Academy of Sciences, the National Center for Science Education, and the American Civil Liberties Union have insisted that any departure from a strictly Darwinian approach to the issue constitutes an attack on science itself, and even an unconstitutional intrusion of religion into the public school science curriculum. On the other hand, many parents and religious activists have long rebelled against what they perceive as a dogmatic attack …

Material Cooperation And Catholic Institutions: An Inquiry Into Traditional Moral Principle And Its Meaning For Catholic Institutions Today, With Reference To Catholic Hospitals In Australia, Joseph C. Parkinson
Theses
This dissertation views the Principle of Legitimate Cooperation as a guiding norm for the activity of Catholic institutions in the world. It samples various expressions of the principle from the seventeenth century to the present day, noting the significance of the central terms ‘intrinsically evil acts’ and ‘sufficiently serious reason’, and suggests that while the principle traditionally applied to individual moral agents, it can also apply to institutions. Taking as starting-points the Second Vatican Council’s call for a renewal of moral theology and the Church’s post-conciliar view of itself as ‘Sacrament of Christ’, the dissertation sketches an essentially Christological and …

A Comparative Study Of The Feeding Ecology Of Chelonia Mydas (Green Turtle) And The Incidental Ingestion Of Prorocentrum Spp, Karen Gayle Holloway Adkins
A Comparative Study Of The Feeding Ecology Of Chelonia Mydas (Green Turtle) And The Incidental Ingestion Of Prorocentrum Spp, Karen Gayle Holloway Adkins
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
The diets of green turtles from five dissimilar aggregations of juvenile C. mydas on the East Coast of Florida were analyzed. C. mydas were captured by tangle net from four of the study sites and a dietary sample was collected by an esophageal flushing technique. The gut content of stranded individuals was collected for the fifth site. The vegetation in these study areas differs in varying degrees of abundance and diversity. Analysis of the samples revealed the alga types preferred by green turtles from each population and provided the basis for examination of similarities and differences in their diets.

Ultrafast Nonlinear Spectrometer For Material Characterization, Raluca A. Negres
Ultrafast Nonlinear Spectrometer For Material Characterization, Raluca A. Negres
Retrospective Theses and Dissertations
This work describes the use of a broadband spectral source for nonlinear spectroscopy to characterize various materials with potential applications in confocal microscopy, biological sample markers, optical limiting devices and optical switches. The goal is to study the spectrum of nonlinear absorption and the dispersion of nonlinear refraction as well as the dynamics of the nonlinearities by means of femtosecond excite-probe experiments.
The principle is quite simple: if a sample is under the influence of a strong fs excitation pulse and a pro be pulse beam is incident at the same time, or shortly after (within the decay time of …
