Promoting Higher Education: The Latino Achievement Mentoring Program (Lamp), Byron L. Zamboanga, Lisa Knoche, Gloria Gonzalez-Kruger, Marcela Raffaelli
Different Perspectives on Majority Rules: 6th Annual National Conference (2001)
Statistics suggest that Latino youths are at risk for academic underachievement and withdrawal. Culturally sensitive approaches to supporting school achievement based on the needs of Latino youth and their families must be developed. In response to these needs, the Latino Research Initiative (LRI), a collaborative group with members from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and the Hispanic Community Center (HCC) created the Latino Achievement Mentoring Program (LAMP). LAMP is a culturally appropriate mentoring program designed to promote school success and post-secondary opportunities for Latino youths. This program provides Latino youths with positive role models and information and guidance about academic …

Aerobic fitness was assessed by estimating each pupil’s minimal oxygen uptake levels (VO2max) using the multistage 20-metre shuttle running test (20-MST). Results: Boys spent more time than girls on leisure physical …
Neuropharmacology Of Dopamine Receptors : Implications In Neuropsychiatric Diseases, Frank I. Tarazi
Neuropharmacology Of Dopamine Receptors : Implications In Neuropsychiatric Diseases, Frank I. Tarazi
Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal
There has been an extraordinary recent accumulation of information concerning the neurobiology and neuropharmacology of dopamine (DA) receptors in the mammalian central nervous system. Many new DA molecular entities have been cloned, their gene, peptide sequences and structures have been identified, their anatomical distributions in the mammalian brain described, and their pharmacology characterized. Progress has been made toward developing selective ligands and drug-candidates for different DA receptors. The new discoveries have greatly stimulated preclinical and clinical studies to explore the neuropharmacology of DA receptors and their implications in the neuropathophysiology of different neuropsychiatric diseases including schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease and attention- …

The Anchor: 2001
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

African American And Teaching In Higher Education Is A Course On Race And Culture, Carole G. Parker Ph.D., Emma T. Lucas
Different Perspectives on Majority Rules: 6th Annual National Conference (2001)
Using theoretical applications, the authors present an overview of theories that highlight approaches for teaching culturally sensitive content, personal experiences as educator and colleague in a predominantly white college campus and strategies for addressing culturally insensitive experiences in and outside the classroom. Presenters focus on the recruitment and retention of people of color and stress the need for today's predominantly white institutions to become more knowledgeable, tolerant and sensitive about their environments in an effort to make them more accepting.

Circles Within Circles: "Light Skinned With Pretty Eyes And Good Hair." What's The Media Got To Do With It?, Alphonso Simpson Jr., Ph.D.
Different Perspectives on Majority Rules: 6th Annual National Conference (2001)
This session addresses the notion of light skin, good hair and pretty eyes and the impact that the media has on self-image within the African American college community. The glorification of European-like features in multimedia America perpetuates the age-old myth that lighter and straighter is better and more desirable.
