Prior TransNow funded research by Portland State University (PSU) and the University of Washington (UW) in cooperation with Tri-Met, the transit provider for the Portland metropolitan area, has utilized a rich set of archived data from the Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL)-based Bus Dispatch System (BDS). Tri-Met is one of the few transit agencies that archive AVL data for analysis and research.

Avian Diversity And Abundance Along A Gradient Of Bayou Development In Houston, Daniella Muallem, Daniel M. Brooks

Bulletin of the Texas Ornithological Society

Eighteen surveys recorded aquatic bird species at three Houston bayou transects with differing channelization. Most diversity and abundance occurred at the most channelized site, Brays Bayou. Only one species was shared across sites. Results reflect habitat differences more than weather effects.

Coase-Sandor Institute for Law & Economics Research Paper Series

This paper investigates the frequency of connections between banks and non-financial firms through board linkages and whether those connections affect lending and borrowing behavior. Although a board linkages may reduce the costs of information flows between the lender and borrower, a board linkage may generate pressure for special treatment of a borrower not normally justifiable on economic grounds. To address this issue, we first document that banks are heavily involved in the corporate governance network through frequent board linkages. Banks tend to have larger boards with a higher proportion of outside directors than non- financial firms, and bank officer-directors tend …

This report summarizes the initial findings of a survey of 52 craft breweries (brewpubs, microbreweries, and regional breweries) in the states of Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The head brewer or owner/operator was surveyed to determine the craft brewing industries’ level of interest in purchasing locally grown and produced grains and locally produced malt, as well as the procurement needs for the ingredients they purchase.

The craft brewing industry, which mushroomed in the early to mid 1990’s, slowed to a crawl in the late 1990’s, however, the industry began to rebound in 2000 as volume for craft brewers …

The concept of location depth was introduced in statistics as a way to extend the univariate notion of ranking to a bivariate configuration of data points. It has been used successfully for robust estimation, hypothesis testing, and graphical display. These reguire the computation of depth regions, which form a collection of nested polygons. The center of the deepest region is called the Tukey median. The only available implemented algorithms for the depth contours and the Tukey median are slow, which limits their usefulness.
