Establishing Guidelines For Using Readers Theater With Less-Skilled Readers, Steven D. Rinehart

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

The author reviews recent research findings concerning the benefits of readers theater for building oral reading accuracy and fluency and then identifies key guidelines for instructional implementation. Recommendations and conclusions place the focus on guidelines for classroom teachers who might want to experiment with readers theater as they work with children who face reading difficulties.

Reading Horizons: A Journal of Literacy and Language Arts

Generating inferences during and after reading is a complex task; yet, one that is essential for complete understanding of texts. This report highlights the types of inferences four students in grades 2-5 drew while constructing meaning from expository passages. An analysis of their think alouds and recommendations for comprehension instruction are included.

A groundwater study was carried out in the townsite of Woodanilling, Western Australia. It aimed to accelerate the implementation of effective salinity management options. The study consisted of a drilling investigation, installation of a piezometer network, groundwater flow modelling and a flood risk analysis.

Using the Rapid Catchment Appraisal process, this report summarises current information for the Lort and Young Rivers Catchment, 75 kilometres west of Esperance in Western Australia. The Rapid Catchment Appraisal (RCA) process is one of the processes included in the strategy to tackle salinity and its management in Western Australia. The RCA process provides a 'snap shot' of information on the risk and impact to agricultural production and natural resources within regional geographic catchments.

"Have Gone To Atlanta": The Diary Entries Of Private Van Buren Oldham, March 13, 1864 To August 1, 1864, Dieter C. Ullrich

From March 13th to August 1, 1864, Private Van Buren Oldham of Company G, 9th Tennessee Volunteers, served as a Confederate infantryman in the Army of Tennessee. During those five months he was one of many soldiers that participated in skirmishes and battles in north Georgia and the defenses before Atlanta.

La investigación actual forma el primer paso en un esfuerzo grande que se dirigirá a dos preguntas que consideramos fundamentales respecto a la organización interna del sistema regional Paquimé. La primera pregunta tiene que ver con el nivel de organización e integración que existía entre las comunidades de la zona interior, mientras la segunda pregunta trata sobre los procesos de desarrollo y disminución de los grandes vecinos próximos al centro de Paqwmé. The rotational temperature obtained from the rotational population distribution in the bands of the hydroxyl airglow has been shown to be a suitable proxy for the temperature at a height of 87 km [She and Lowe, 1998]. In this paper we examine in detail simultaneous observations on November 2–3, 1997, at Fort Collins, Colorado (41°N, 105°W), with both a sodium temperature lidar and the Coupling, Energetics, and Dynamics of Atmospheric Regions (CEDAR) OH mesospheric temperature mapper during which significant differences between the hydroxyl and lidar temperatures occur. The 1600 eruption of Vol can Huaynaputina in Southern Peru was one of the largest historic eruptions (VEl 6). The eruption proceeded in three stages containing the same mineral assemblage of plagioclase>homblende>biotite> Fe-Ti oxides±apatite. Differences in crystal content, vesicularity, volatile content, temperature estimates, and the presence of disequilibrium textures have brought into question the petrogenesis of the 1600 eruption products. This work strives to quantify the pre- and syn-eruption magmatic conditions in order to ascertain the petrogenesis of the eruption products. Increased character education is one alternative available to help what many see as the mayhem of moral decline in America. Research suggests a correlation between the teaching of character education of youth and its positive ethical results throughout the United States. While these findings demonstrate positive changes experienced by youth audiences, no research to date has been conducted on the effects that teaching Character Counts! has on those teaching the program. The research project reported here examined Character Counts! Program's impact on Cooperative Extension and on the personal and societal lives of Extension educators and assistants. This Article considers the reasons for reinterpretations of age and disability and examines the fundamental reasons for changes in the implementation of both the ADA and ADEA. Part I presents the basic structure and relevant requirements of the two statutes and comments on the reasons their legislative purposes are not often seen as overlapping. Part II discusses the recent Supreme Court decisions that have undermined the purposes and implementation of both the ADA and ADEA and chilled causes of action based on the ADA and ADEA. The Influence Of Peat And Inorganic Amendments On Physical Properties Of Sand-Based Rootzones, Freddie C. Waltz Jr.

Many golf course putting greens and athletic fields are constructed with a medium consisting of a high sand content. Peat is the most common amendment to rootzone sand (RZS). However, a trend to replace peat with inorganic soil amendments (IOSA), such as calcined clay (CC) and diatomaceous earth (DE), is occurring. Laboratory studies were conducted to evaluate physical and hydraulic properties of rootzone mixtures and a field study investigated the potential of IOSA as a replacement to peat. In laboratory evaluations, amended RZS reduced the bulk density of all mixtures, while saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) for the RZS and mixtures …
