Understanding Adoption And Continual Usage Behaviour Towards Internet Banking Services In Hong Kong, Siu Cheung Chan Oct 2001

Understanding Adoption And Continual Usage Behaviour Towards Internet Banking Services In Hong Kong, Siu Cheung Chan

Lingnan Theses

Banks and financial institutions in Hong Kong are increasingly finding themselves facing rapid increases in turbulence and complexity, leading to greater uncertainty and increased competition. Customers are also becoming more demanding. Apart from the traditional type of banking services, customers today require more personalized products and services, and access to such services at any time, and at any place. Although there is no panacea for banks to stay competitive, Internet Banking is one of the advanced information technologies they can employ to achieve a high level of customer services.

Internet Banking is an emerging technology that permits conduct of banking …

Many Voices, One Umma: Sociopolitical Debate In The Muslim Community, James A. Toronto Oct 2001

Many Voices, One Umma: Sociopolitical Debate In The Muslim Community, James A. Toronto

BYU Studies

As a religion expands beyond its original setting, it encounters new historical, economic, social, and geopolitical forces. The resulting clash between sacred truth and secular reality created ideological tensions within a religious community that lead its followers to engage in a process of dialogue, reform, and reconciliation. This process of dialectical exchange occurs both between members of the community and between the community and outside forces. Often it gives rise to traumatic, even violent, conflict and frequently leads to schisms and the establishment of break-away religious movements. The history of religion provides abundant evidence that the ability of a nascent …

Children's Attitudes Toward Persons With Disabilities: A Comparison Of Rural And Urban Schools., Angela D. Williams

Student Work

Several individuals need to be acknowledged for their help with this project_ First and foremost, I would like to sincerely thank Melissa Hall and Kelly Branecki. Without their help in data collection, this project would not have been completed. The 5:00 a.m. trip and five-hour drive demonstrated their enthusiasm and dedication to this project. I would also like to thank the administrators who allowed their schools to participate in my study. Additional thanks goes to my committee members, Dr. Robert Woody, Dr. John Hill, and Dr. Hans Langner for their help and feedback. In addition, my advisor, Dr. Lisa Kelly-Vance …

Work Family Policies And Perceptions Of Fairness: Perspectives On Supervisor Support And Work Schedule Control, Emily R. Blodgett Oct 2001

Work Family Policies And Perceptions Of Fairness: Perspectives On Supervisor Support And Work Schedule Control, Emily R. Blodgett

Student Work

In response to increasing degrees o f work and family conflict, some companies have implemented work and family policies. However, evidence suggests that many companies will not implement work and family policies because they believe that some employees will feel that the policies are unfair, although this claim has been made with only minimal empirical evidence. This study examined employees’ fairness perceptions of work/family policies. It was hypothesized that employees who might benefit from a work/family policy would feel that the policy was more fair than would employees who would not benefit from such a policy. To test this hypothesis, …

Marriage Proposals: From One-Size-Fits-All To Postmodern Marriage Law, Barbara Stark Oct 2001

Marriage Proposals: From One-Size-Fits-All To Postmodern Marriage Law, Barbara Stark

Hofstra Law Faculty Scholarship

Before they marry, few couples have any real alternative to one-size-fits-all marriage. Expectations are often very different, however, not only among different couples but between the partners in a particular couple as well. Because these different expectations are rarely explicit, they are rarely addressed. During the marriage, similarly, the law neither reflects nor accommodates the partners' diverse experiences. There are no legal mechanisms for realizing their hopes or cushioning their disappointments. Rather, the parties are left to "work things out" through endless negotiations and compromises. If we as a society value marriage, and want marriage to succeed, we should provide …

Attorney Fact-Finding, Ethical Decision-Making And The Methodology Of Law, Robert Rubinson Oct 2001

Attorney Fact-Finding, Ethical Decision-Making And The Methodology Of Law, Robert Rubinson

All Faculty Scholarship

This Article explores the significance, challenges, and complexities of attorney fact-finding in ethical decision-making. Almost all discourse about legal ethics, from the pedagogical to the scholarly to the practical, takes facts for granted in order to focus on issues about ethical rules. The factual dimension of ethical decision-making, however, is critical to the decision-making process and can be subjected to rigorous and systematic study. Indeed, it is lawyers in a situation who engage in ethical decision-making, and such a situation entails the assimilation and interpretation of many sources of information. Such a process necessarily includes the motivations and ambivalence of …

Business Lawyer, Woman Warrior: An Allegory Of Feminine And Masculine Theories, Barbara Ann White Oct 2001

Business Lawyer, Woman Warrior: An Allegory Of Feminine And Masculine Theories, Barbara Ann White

All Faculty Scholarship

The first part of this essay is a discourse on how two of the last half century’s most influential contributions to legal thinking: Law and Economics Jurisprudence and Feminist Legal Theory, whose adherents are normally adversaries, can function synergistically to create a greater analytic power. Using business law issues as an example - historically law and economics’ terrain but recently explored by feminism - I comment on how each can unravel different knots but each standing alone leave other conundrums unresolved.

Expanding on the feminist concept of “masculine thinking,” I discuss how, just as law and economics’ analytic style (i.e., …

Film Depictions Of Judas, Kim Paffenroth Oct 2001

Film Depictions Of Judas, Kim Paffenroth

Journal of Religion & Film

This article analyzes the depiction of Judas in the seven best-known Jesus films. Perhaps surprisingly, all the depictions are positive, on the one hand breaking with centuries of traditions that depicted Judas as the basest of villains, but on the other, following a persistent minority tradition that portrayed him sympathetically.

A Disjunction Between Personal, Professional And Societal Values In Pre-Service Teacher Education, Peter Reynolds

Australian Journal of Teacher Education

Following the development of the Common and Agreed National Goals for Schooling (Australian Education Council, 1989) the Western Australian Curriculum Council was established and it has subsequently developed a Curriculum Framework for eight learning areas as well as for the values identified as implicit within those learning areas and within the governance of schools (Curriculum Council, 1998). These values have been called the shared core values of Australian society. Within the context of an analysis of these values, this paper presents the findings from a survey of the personal and the perceived societal values of Australia held by a sample …

Altruism, The Prisoner's Dilemma, And The Components Of Selection, Jeffrey Fletcher, Martin Zwick Oct 2001

Altruism, The Prisoner's Dilemma, And The Components Of Selection, Jeffrey Fletcher, Martin Zwick

Complex Systems Faculty Publications and Presentations

The n-player prisoner’s dilemma (PD) is a useful model of multilevel selection for altruistic traits. It highlights the non zero-sum interactions necessary for the evolution of altruism as well as the tension between individual and group-level selection. The parameters of the n-player PD can be directly related to the Price equation as well as to a useful alternative selection decomposition. Finally, the n-player PD emphasizes the expected equilibrium condition of mutual defection in the absence of higher levels of organization and selection. Keywords: prisoner's dilemma, N-player PD, multilevel selection, altruism, Price equation, group selection
