This research explores four experiments of adaptive host-based intrusion detection (ID) techniques in an attempt to develop systems that can detect novel exploits. The technique considered to have the most potential is adaptive critic designs (ACDs) because of their utilization of reinforcement learning, which allows learning exploits that are difficult to pinpoint in sensor data. Preliminary results of ID using an ACD, an Elman recurrent neural network, and a statistical anomaly detection technique demonstrate an ability to learn to distinguish between clean and exploit data. Spatial Symmetry Breaking In The Belousov-Zhabotinsky Reaction With Light-Induced Remote Communication, M. Hildebrand, H. Skødt, K. Showalter

Domains containing spiral waves form on a stationary background in a photosensitive Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction with light-induced alternating nonlocal feedback. Complex behavior of colliding and splitting wave fragments is found with feedback radii comparable to the spiral wavelength. A linear stability analysis of the uniform stationary states in an Oregonator model reveals a spatial symmetry breaking instability. Numerical simulations show behavior in agreement with that found experimentally and also predict a variety of other new patterns.

Comparative Histological Analysis Of Hepatitis C Virus With Hepatitis B, Gülen Akyol, Özlem Süer, Cem Sezer

Aims: Rates of certain histopathologic features were evaluated in hepatitis C and in hepatitis B materials and analyzed statistically in a Turkish population. Method: The presence of lymphoid aggregate, steatosis, ductal lesions, sinusoidal inflammation and portal iron deposition were investigated in 80 hepatitis C and 104 hepatitis B specimens and evaluated using the chi-square test and Fisher's exact test. Pan Band T cell markers were used for lymphoid aggregate analysis. P53 and PCNA were applied for the possible impact of steatosis on cell biology. Results: All mentioned parameters excluding sinusoidal inflammation were found to be higher in hepatitis C samples. …

For decades, geographical variations in cancer rates have been observed but the precise determinants of such geographic differences in breast cancer development are unclear. Various statistical models have been proposed. Applications of these models, however, require that the data be assembled from a variety of sources, converted into the statistical models’ parameters and delivered effectively to researchers and policy makers. A web-enabled and GIS-based system can be developed to provide the needed functionality. Problem. Why do some Seventh-day Adventist youth leave the church in North America? The proportion of the youth who disaffiliate themselves from the church is considered to be a problem of serious concern for parents, teachers, other religious educators, and the church itself. It was the purpose of this study to discover the relationships that may exist between youth retention in the church and other selected variables.

The goal of these experiments is to determine the relative effects of various agents (Ptpt dinucleotide, lutein, and vitamin C) on the activity of long terminal repeat (LTR) in HIV 1 infected cells (HIV LTR) in both control and UV exposed cells. It is known that the LTR is important in transcription and therefore viral replication. A HeLa cell line transfected with a plasmid that has the HTV-LTR and an E. coli chloranphenicol acetyl transferase (CAT) reporter gene was used. The purpose of this study was to examine how three Black female teachers and three White female teachers of kindergarten, first grade, and eighth grade understand the connections between their racial identity and their teaching practices . Specifically, it sought to understand how they experience their first awareness of racial difference and the influence their family, community, and school had on their construct of race. Also, how their preparation to teach reinforced, expanded, altered, or demystified their understanding of racial differences as a means to teach all children . This paper presents a comprehensive framework for describing the diffusion of the Internet in a country. It incorporates insights gained from in-depth studies of about 25 countries undertaken since 1997. The framework characterizes diffusion using six dimensions, defining them in detail, and examines how the six dimensions relate to underlying bodies of theory from the national systems of innovation and diffusion of innovations approaches. It addresses how to apply the framework in practice, highlighting Internet diffusion determinants. A new vic-dioxime ligand and its Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Pd(II), VO(IV) and Zn(II) complexes have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, infrared, electronic spectra, magnetic moment and molar conductance data. The Ni(II), Pd(II) and Zn(II) complexes have a diamagnetic character. The ^{1}H- and ^{13}C-nmr and GC/MS spectra of the vic-dioxime ligand and its Ni(II), Pd(II) and Zn(II) complexes were recorded. In addition, all compounds are non-electrolyte.
