Bacillus Species For Reducing Fusarium Head Blight In Cereals, David A. Schisler, Naseem I. Khan, Michael J. Boehm

Microbial antagonists that will suppress Fusarium head blight (head scab) in cereals, particularly in wheat and barley have been identified. Two superior antagonists include NRRL B-30210 and NRRL B-30211.

Gibberella zeae incites Fusarium head blight (FHB), a devastating disease that causes extensive yield and quality losses to wheat and barley. Of over 700 microbial strains obtained from wheat anthers, 54 were able to utilize tartaric acid as a carbon source when the compound was supplied as choline bitartrate in liquid culture. Four tartaric acid–utilizing and three nonutilizing strains reduced FHB in initial tests and were selected for further assays. Antagonists were effective against three different isolates of G. zeae when single wheat florets were inoculated with pathogen and antagonist inoculum. In this analysis, we plan on developing vegetable mixes with high nutritional qualities and instant fuel consumption. These are to be used as a nutritional supplement in the feeding of children from 6 months of age. Initially, I selected the raw material, due to its high protein content and low cost (soy, tarhui, Cuban corn, rice, wheat, barley). They formed mixes with nutritional characteristics similar to the control for reference (15.5% of protein, 419 kcal of energy). For the past two hundred and fifty years, the relationship between First Nations and Euro-Canadians, has shifted from an equal partnership to one of colonized and colonizer. Despite this history, First Nations people have shown resiliency, continuing to honor beliefs, values, and traditions. Constrained by Euro-Canadian government Indian Affairs polices, First Nations have not progressed economically or politically, but have been caught in the trap of administering their own poverty. Peer Sexual Harassment In California After Davis, John F. Walsh

UC Law SF Journal on Gender and Justice

This article discusses, from a practice standpoint, the significance Davis v. Monroe County Board of Education will have for California schools and colleges. The article first discusses Ninth Circuit interpretations of peer harassment prior to Davis, then analyzes Davis from a practice standpoint, raising issues left open by the Davis decision. The article then discusses the interrelationship between Title IX and California law. Finally, the article addresses institutional and personal liability and immunity defense issues.
