Genetic Consequences Of Polygyny And Social Structure In An Indian Fruit Bat, Cynopterus Sphinx. Ii. Variance In Male Mating Success And Effective Population Size, Jay F. Storz, Hari Bhat, Thomas H. Kunz

Variance in reproductive success is a primary determinant of genetically effective population size (Ne), and thus has important implications for the role of genetic drift in the evolutionary dynamics of animal taxa characterized by polygynous mating systems. Here we report the results of a study designed to test the hypothesis that polygynous mating results in significantly reduced Ne in an age-structured population. This hypothesis was tested in a natural population of a harem-forming fruit bat, Cynopterus sphinx (Chiroptera: Pteropodidae), in western India. This publication will answer many questions that homeowners or potential homeowners, realtors and lenders may have about residential on-site wastewater treatment systems. Information is based on Title 124: Rules and Regulations for the Design, Operation and Maintenance of On-site WastewaterTreatment Systems of the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ), which requires that a dwelling or establishment that generates wastewater have an on-site wastewater treatment system in accordance with those regulations, or be connected to a public wastewater treatment system. An establishment is a house, building, structure, or place that generates more than 1,000 gallons of wastewater per day, generates non-domestic …

Rearing And Releasing Galerucella Beetles To Control Purple Loosestrife, Stevan Z. Kenzevic, Doug Smith

Purple loosestrife is a noxious weed quickly invading Nebraska's wetlands. This publication describes the rearing and releasing of insects for biological control of the weed, as one part of an integrated management program. Purple loosestrife is a noxious perennial weed invading thousands of acres of wetlands and waterways in the Midwest. In Nebraska an estimated 18,000 acres are already infested by this plant, mostly along the main rivers and waterways. It has no natural enemies in North America, therefore it is very hard to prevent it from spreading. For years people have tried to eradicate it, especially in the Great …
