Articles

For example, sodomy laws that prohibit only same-sex sexual activities are analyzed as discriminating on the basis of sex because they prohibit women from doing something men are permitted to do, that is, have sex with women. This argument has been championed by some scholars and litigators, and it has persuaded some judges. Edward Stein shows that there are sociological, theoretical, moral, and practical problems facing the sex discrimination argument. He suggests that there are better …

Modeling And Analysis Of Social Networks, Robert S. Renfro Ii

Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation develops new methods for the modeling and analysis of social networks. Social networks describe the complex relationships of individuals and groups in multiple overlapping contexts. Influence in a social network impacts behavior and decision making in every setting in which individuals participate. This study defines a methodology for modeling and analyzing this complex behavior using a Flow-Model representation. Multiple objectives in an influencing effort targeted at a social network are modeled using Goal Programming. Value Focused Thinking is applied to model influence and predict decisions based on the reaction of the psychological state of individuals to environmental stimuli. …

Sex, Gender Roles, And Bias In The Diagnosis Of Personality Disorders: A Models Comparison Approach, Jeremy Paul Crosby Dec 2001

Sex, Gender Roles, And Bias In The Diagnosis Of Personality Disorders: A Models Comparison Approach, Jeremy Paul Crosby

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Clinicians have been found to assign differing personality disorder diagnoses based on the patient's sex, raising concerns of sex bias. However, studies assessing symptom ratings have yielded different results than studies assessing the assignment of diagnoses. The present study utilized both approaches to address sex bias. A national sample (N = 167) of psychologists provided both symptom ratings and diagnoses for two case vignettes meeting minimum DSM-IV criteria for Antisocial and Histrionic personality disorders, and the sex of the patients in the cases was manipulated. A sexunspecified condition was used as a baseline measure to assess for over- and underpathologizing …

Knowledge Management Technology: Will There Be A Second Chance?, Roger A. Lohmann

Faculty & Staff Scholarship

Since its creation in 1989, ARNOVA has grown from a 2-day annual conference to a year-round functioning organization that is one of the major contributors to the third sector/civil society paradigm. Online knowledge management and infomatics are one of the major concerns. The concern here is with a few technical aspects of the role of the association in the production, dissemination and application of knowledge about the third sector the flow of scholarly documents generated by ARNOVA members primarily for the use of other members. The challenge today, as it has been in the past, is how to structure a …

The Anchor, Volume 115.12: November 28, 2001, Hope College

The Anchor: 2001

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
