Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Epidemiologic, Pathophysiologic, Diagnostic And Treatment Perspectives, Yasser S. Al-Ghamdy, Naseem A. Qureshi Aug 2001

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Epidemiologic, Pathophysiologic, Diagnostic And Treatment Perspectives, Yasser S. Al-Ghamdy, Naseem A. Qureshi

Saudi Medical Journal

Although attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a common child psychiatric disorder, the epidemiology and pathophysiology of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is variable in different studies. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and comorbid disorders in children aided both by attention deficit hyperactivity disorder diagnostic criteria and assessment scales entails a comprehensive neuropsychiatric interview plus collection of information from different sources. Although psychosocial and behavioral therapies are of great therapeutic values, the psychopharmacological drugs are often used in the treatment of patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. With a combined approach, a substantial proportion of patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (90%) show …

“Welcome To Prime-Time, Bitch”: The Nightmare On Elm Street Film Series And The Social Problematic Of Mediated Quasi-Interaction, Jason Rapelje Aug 2001

“Welcome To Prime-Time, Bitch”: The Nightmare On Elm Street Film Series And The Social Problematic Of Mediated Quasi-Interaction, Jason Rapelje

Masters Theses

This thesis explores how scenes of conflict within the "Nightmare on Elm Street" film series articulate four problematic characteristics of mediated quasi-interaction. The exploration is achieved partly by turning these four problematic characteristics into four "metaphorical anxiety themes," the occurrence of which is kept track of as they appear within the conflict scenes. Afterward, select scenes of conflict are reinterpreted based around the concept of "pseudo-ontology," which is used to uncover the ideological significance of the main characters' actions. Overall, the findings display that the films' articulation of the four metaphorical anxiety themes, alone and in combination, decrease …

Differential Signalling In Pcbs: Modeling And Validation Of Dielectric Losses And Effects Of Discontinuities, R. Araneo, Chen Wang, Xiaoxiong Gu, S. Celozzi, James L. Drewniak

Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

This paper focuses on differential signal transmission above ground planes with gaps, taking into account the dielectric and conductive losses of the substrate. An equivalent lumped-circuit is proposed and its suitability is investigated by comparing the obtained numerical results with the measured data. Furthermore the differential to common mode conversion of the waves, while crossing the gap, is theoretically analyzed and experimentally verified.

The World Wide Web: A Training Tool For Family Resource Management Educators, Glenn Muske, Marsha Goetting, Merrylee Vukonich Aug 2001

The World Wide Web: A Training Tool For Family Resource Management Educators, Glenn Muske, Marsha Goetting, Merrylee Vukonich

Journal of Extension

Cooperative Extension has actively explored new technologies as a means to provide education to its own staff and the general public. The study reported here concerned the development of a Web site used for Extension family resource management training. The study found that Extension educators use the Web for information and support using it for training. Educators appreciated having links that could be considered reliable and accurate. The data also suggest that such sites can provide a "refresher" to the in-service material, thus reinforcing the learning experience.

Consumer Understanding Of The Food Guide Pyramid And Dietary Guidelines, Cynthia Reeves Tuttle Aug 2001

Consumer Understanding Of The Food Guide Pyramid And Dietary Guidelines, Cynthia Reeves Tuttle

Journal of Extension

The Food Guide Pyramid and the Dietary Guidelines are tools commonly used in nutrition education. The Pyramid has become a highly visible marketing tool, and related consumer awareness is quite high. The study reported here compared perceived consumer awareness of these tools with consumers' ability to relate the information they impart. The results indicate that, although awareness and perceived knowledge of the content of the tools is high (100%), the ability to identify food groups, appropriate number of servings, and dietary guidelines is surprisingly low and not consistent with their perceptions. These findings indicate important areas of emphasis for Extension …

The County Fair- What Has It Done For You, Lately?, Keith G. Diem, Lisa Rothenburger

Journal of Extension

Nearly every county has a county fair, in which staff, volunteers, and families invest a great deal of time and money to organize, promote, and run every year. After decades of habit, it's easy to forget or ignore why you're doing it in the first place. Now could be the time to stop and ask, "What has your county fair done for you, lately?" Our question is not a call to turn back from tradition, but to reflect on history and current status and to set a course for the future.

The Family Storyteller: A Collaborative Family Literacy Program, Dan Weigel, Patricia Behal, Sally Martin

Journal of Extension

Children who begin school with limited literacy skills are struggling uphill from the first day they set foot in school. The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension initiated a collaborative family literacy effort to improve the literacy skills of both parents and their children. A series of six weekly workshops have been provided across Nevada to over 500 families. Pre-post interviews with families have revealed significant increases in the amount of time parents read with their children, their enjoyment of reading time, and their use of specific parent reading techniques. Children have made significant gains in their enjoyment of reading with …

Delivery Systems- Is The "Lates" Technology The Greatest?, Amanda D. Rodewald Aug 2001

Delivery Systems- Is The "Lates" Technology The Greatest?, Amanda D. Rodewald

Journal of Extension

High-tech delivery systems, such as distance-based learning and on-line resources, are increasingly popular among Extension organizations, but are they preferable to traditional delivery systems? In the study reported here, the author surveyed Extension agents (with agriculture and natural resources responsibilities) and natural resources professionals in state agencies to determine which delivery systems were most preferred for wildlife management information. Regardless of the respondent group, printed fact sheets and bulletins were among the most preferred sources of information for wildlife-related topics. These findings illustrate the importance of including traditional printed delivery systems into our high-tech programs.

The Emerging Periplasm-Localized Subclass Of Aroq Chorismate Mutases, Exemplified By Those From Salmonella Typhimurium And Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, David H. Calhoun, Carol A. Bonner, Wei Gu, Gary Xie, Roy A. Jensen Jul 2001

Jensen

Publications and Research

Background Chorismate mutases of the AroQ homology class are widespread in the Bacteria and the Archaea. Many of these exist as domains that are fused with other aromatic-pathway catalytic domains. Among the monofunctional AroQ proteins, that from Erwinia herbicola was previously shown to have a cleavable signal peptide and located in the periplasmic compartment. Whether or not this might be unique to E. herbicola was unknown. Results The gene coding for the AroQ protein was cloned from Salmonella typhimurium, and the AroQ protein purified from both S. typhimurium and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was shown to have a periplasmic location. The periplasmic …
