Cooperativity Of Dna Object Self-Assembly, Ava Caudill Dykes Jan 2001

Cooperativity Of Dna Object Self-Assembly, Ava Caudill Dykes

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

In this study, the temperature dependence of self-assembling DNA structures was investigated. Specially designed two-dimensional DNA nanoarrays offer not only structural stability not normally associated with DNA, but also provide several possible sites of interaction, referred to as free ends, which can be easily exploited through conventional Watson-Crick base pairing. The ability to synthesize two-dimensional DNA nanoarrays was corroborated by confirming the presence of the nanoarrays by AFM imaging in air. The physical characteristics of two-dimensional DNA nanoarrays were also studied. DNA nanoarray synthesis occurs via a self-assembly process based on Watson-Crick base pairing. This self-assembly occurs through an annealing …

Inter-Domain Lsp Setup Using Bandwidth Management Points, Ibrahim Taner Okumus, Junseok Hwang, Haci Ali Mantar, Steve J. Chapin Jan 2001

Inter-Domain Lsp Setup Using Bandwidth Management Points, Ibrahim Taner Okumus, Junseok Hwang, Haci Ali Mantar, Steve J. Chapin

Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - All Scholarship

Bandwidth Management Points (BMP) are a necessity to manage the intra and inter-domain resources in the Internet. In this paper we propose a way to setup inter-domain Label Switched Path (LSP) with the help of a BMP in a MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) over DiffServ network. We use extended Simple Inter-domain Bandwidth Broker Signalling Protocol (SIBBS) to distribute the labels inter-domain. We also use a BMP to interact with the MPLS to setup the intra-domain LSP and to provision the intra-domain traffic. With the help of a BMP, we show how end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) can be achieved.

A "Converse" Of The Banach Contraction Mapping Theorem, Pascal Hitzler, Anthony K. Seda

Computer Science and Engineering Faculty Publications

We prove a type of converse of the Banach contraction mapping theorem for metric spaces: if X is a T1 topological space and f: X -> X is a function with the unique fixed point a such that fn(x) converges to a for each x is a member of X, then there exists a distance function d on X such that f is a contraction on the complete ultrametric space (X,d) with contractivity factor 1/2. We explore properties of the resulting space (X,d).

Evaluating The "Representative Reach" Component Of Rapid Bioassessment Protocol: Variation Among Candidate Stream Reaches, Michael J. Buth Jan 2001

Evaluating The "Representative Reach" Component Of Rapid Bioassessment Protocol: Variation Among Candidate Stream Reaches, Michael J. Buth

McNair Scholars Journal

Rapid Bioassessment Protocol (RBP) is a set of guidelines developed by the USEPA to standardize the practice of using qualitative survey techniques on aquatic organisms to gauge stream health. One component of RBP involves selecting a small section of a stream, known as a "representative reach", which is supposed to represent the conditions found over a larger area of the stream. This study was conducted to examine the variability between reaches in close proximity to each other, and to determine if that variability could be great enough to influence RBP results. I also looked at whether anthropogenic disturbance within the …

Investigation Of Magnetopause Reconnection Models Using Two Colocated, Low‐Altitude Satellites: A Unifying Reconnection Geometry, A. Boudouridis, Harlan E. Spence, T. G. Onsager

Physics & Astronomy

Ion precipitation data from two co-orbiting Defense Meteorological Satellite Program satellites (F6 and F8) are used to investigate magnetopause reconnection models. We examine differential fluxes between 30 eV and 30 keV, from a Southern Hemisphere, prenoon pass during the morning of January 10, 1990. Data from the first satellite to pass through the region (F6) show two distinct ion energy dispersions •-1 ø of latitude apart, between 76 ø and 79 ø magnetic latitude. The electron data exhibit similar features at around the same region but with no or little energy dispersion, consistent with their high velocities. We suggest that …
