Quantification Of Nanomolar Superoxide In Aqueous Solution : Flow Injection Analysis Using The Chemiluminescent Reagent Mcla., Nathan Boland
Quantification Of Nanomolar Superoxide In Aqueous Solution : Flow Injection Analysis Using The Chemiluminescent Reagent Mcla., Nathan Boland
Honors Theses
A flow injection system using the chemiluminescent reagent 2-methyl-6-(4methoxyphenyl)- 3,7-dihydroimidazo[1,2-a]pyrazin-3-one (MCLA) was used to quantify aqueous concentrations of superoxide. Stock solutions of superoxide were produced by photolysis of a solution of 2-propanol and benzophenone. The concentration of superoxide was quantified in the stock solutions by direct measurement of the absorbance at 240 nm. Quantified additions of superoxide to the flow injection analysis system reacted with MCLA at pH 5.1 demonstrated a detection limit of 0.074 nM superoxide. Selective superoxide detection was confirmed by pH-dependent decay of superoxide, which was in excellent agreement with published rates.

Seismicity In The Vicinity Of Yucca Mountain, Nevada, For The Period October 1, 1997 To September 20, 1999, David H. Von Seggern, Ken Smith, Glenn Biasi
Publications (YM)
Starting on October 1, 1995 the monitoring of seismicity within the southern Great Basin near Yucca Mountain was performed with a new digital network. This network features three-component recording with 24-bit A/D conversion in the field. Continuous data is collected at 20 sps, and event triggered windows are collected at 100 samples per second. A seismic bulletin of events is made by associating triggers occurring within a prescribed time window. classifying the local earthquake events, and locating the earthquakes and computing their magnitudes with conventional methods. This report covers the operational and seismic results of the third and fourth full …

Multidisciplinarity And Cognitive Science, Barbara Von Eckardt
Multidisciplinarity And Cognitive Science, Barbara Von Eckardt
Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications
The aim of Schunn, Crowley and Okada’s (1998) study is to address the question of whether the current state of cognitive science, as represented by Cognitive Science and the Cognitive Science Society, “reflects the multidisciplinary ideals of its foundation.” To properly interpret and respond to their results, we need to ask a prior question: What is cognitive science’s multidisciplinary ideal? There are at least two conceptions—a “localist” conception, which seems to be implicit in Schunn, Crowley and Okada’s discussion, and a “holist” conception. I argue that while both have been endorsed by some cognitive scientists, there are reasons for preferring …
Designing, Implementing And Assessing A Financial Education Curriculum In The Juvenile Justice Commission, Kathleen Kelley Michalowski
Designing, Implementing And Assessing A Financial Education Curriculum In The Juvenile Justice Commission, Kathleen Kelley Michalowski
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the project is to determine the effectiveness of a financial education curriculum on the understanding and application of financial resources to begin a financial plan for the future. This study will provide insight into the current financial practices and beliefs of incarcerated youth in the State of New Jersey and the impact the financial education curriculum has on the reliance of State aid and welfare.
The data was collected through a pen and pencil survey, informal interviews and record abstraction. The sample was derived from five New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission programs and institutions. The sample was …

A Study To Design, Investigate, Implement And Motivate Parents To Become More Involved In School Activities And In The Education Of Their Children, Bibiana A. Anyanwu-Acholonu
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to define and evaluate the strategies of motivating parents to get involved in the education of their children. The subjects were selected from Sharp School, community businesses, and organizations. The criteria for the selection of the subjects were based on the diverse population of the stakeholders and outside school community interest groups. Questionnaires were administered to parents and teachers. Responses were collected. Data was analyzed and interpreted. Semi-structural interviews were conducted and recorded. Observations were preformed. The result of the observations was recorded. All information obtained from the above were assessed and compared to …

Spatial Variability In The Flow Of A Valley Glacier: Deformation Of A Large Array Of Boreholes, Joel T. Harper, Neil Humphrey, W. Tad Pfeffer, Snehalata V. Huzurbazar, David B. Bahr, Brian C. Welch
Geosciences Faculty Publications
Measurements of the deformation of a dense array of boreholes in Worthington Glacier, Alaska, show that the glacier moves with generally bed-parallel motion. Strain in the 200 m deep valley glacier is constant near the surface but follows a nonlinear vertical profile below a depth of about 120 m. By a depth of 180 m, the octahedral strain rate reaches 0.35 yr-1. The three-dimensional velocity field shows spatial complexity with significant deviations from plane strain, despite relatively simple valley geometry in the vicinity of the 6 x 106 m3 study volume. No evidence was found for …

Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging Using A Coherent Ultrawideband Random Noise Radar System, Daryl C. Bell, Ram M. Narayanan
Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar Imaging Using A Coherent Ultrawideband Random Noise Radar System, Daryl C. Bell, Ram M. Narayanan
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering: Faculty Publications
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has developed an ultrawideband random noise radar operating over the 1- to 2-GHz frequency range. The system uses the technique of heterodyne correlation, and is thus phase coherent. It has therefore been used in applications such as interferometry, polarimetry, and Doppler estimation. This assesses the performance of this radar as a range-Doppler imaging system, in particular, inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR). By performing turntable experiments, we examine a number of issues that arise both from the wideband nature of the radar system and from the randomness of the transmit signal. Although the ultrawideband nature of the …

Perceptions And Experiences Of Middle School General Education Social Studies And Science Teachers With Respect To The Inclusion Of Low Reading Level Students In Their Classrooms, David Walls
Theses and Dissertations
P.L. 94-142, and subsequent laws, require that all students receive a free and appropriate public education provided in the least restrictive environment (LRE). When a child study team has determined that a child is eligible for special education services they decide which program will most benefit this child's academic progress. Numerous variables determine placement in the most appropriate and least restrictive environment, so that when a child is placed in the general education setting for content area classes it is in the best interest of that child.
This study provided documentation of the attitudes, perceptions, and concerns of general education …
