Examples Of The Motif Of The Shrew In European Literature And Film, Louise O. Vasvári
Examples Of The Motif Of The Shrew In European Literature And Film, Louise O. Vasvári
CLCWeb: Comparative Literature and Culture
In her article "Examples of the Motif of the Shrew in European Literature and Film" Louise O. Vasvári presents the shrew-taming story as a masterplot of both Eastern and Western folklore and literature concerned with establishing the appropriate power dynamic between a married couple. Vasvári firts reviews the comparative groundwork of the story she has documented in her earlier studies of the topic. In addition to tracing the bundle of motifs that make up the shrew story from medieval Arabic and European versions to the present, she then devotes attention to Hungarian folklore traditions. In the second part of the …

Faculty Publications
This presentation introduces an integrated software system that has been designed and implemented to allow processing of difficult text. The genealogical text subdomain often exhibits characteristics that do not occur in more general written language. The system we describe has been developed specifically to address the extraction and analysis of information from such specialized text.
Using A Story-Building Approach To Research Comprehensive Community Initiatives, Lori Messinger
Using A Story-Building Approach To Research Comprehensive Community Initiatives, Lori Messinger
The Qualitative Report
This article is the story of the author's experiences as a researcher-storyteller. She delineates the process used to "build a story" of the planning and development of a rural comprehensive community initiative. In a critically reflective look at this approach to community research, the author describes how she selected the research topic, defined the purposes of the research, selected the methods used in data collection and analysis, and approached the construction process of building the story through literary elements such as plot, scene, and voice. The strengths and pitfalls of this approach and suggestions for future research are discussed.
The Art And Science Of Critical Scholarship: Postmodernism And International Style In The Legal Architecture Of Europe, Ugo Mattei, Anna Di Robilant
The Art And Science Of Critical Scholarship: Postmodernism And International Style In The Legal Architecture Of Europe, Ugo Mattei, Anna Di Robilant
Faculty Scholarship
This Article is a critique of several contemporary modes of thought in European legal scholarship. It intends to shed light on some interesting phenomena within legal ideology. Removing a legal ideology from its original context and applying it to a new situation can transform its meaning. For example, a progressive movement born in the United States becomes conservative when transplanted into the European institutional context The study of the Americanization of European law has offered many examples of such fascinating ideological twists.
A Flexible Framework For Collaborative Visualization Applications Using Java Spaces, Sean C. Butler
A Flexible Framework For Collaborative Visualization Applications Using Java Spaces, Sean C. Butler
Theses and Dissertations
The complexity of modern tasks is rising along with the level of technology. Two techniques commonly used to deal with complexity are collaboration and information visualization. Recently, computer networks have arisen as a powerful means of collaboration, and many new technologies are being developed to better utilize them. Among the newer, more promising of these technologies is Sun Microsystems' JavaSpaces ™, a high-level network programming API. This thesis describes a tool for developing collaborative visualization software using JavaSpaces-an application framework and accompanying toolkit. In addition to a detailed description of the framework, the thesis also describes an application implemented using …

Separated At Birth But Siblings Nonetheless: Miranda And The Due Process Notice Cases, George C. Thomas Iii
Separated At Birth But Siblings Nonetheless: Miranda And The Due Process Notice Cases, George C. Thomas Iii
Michigan Law Review
Paraphrasing Justice Holmes, law is less about logic than experience. Courts and scholars have now had thirty-four years of experience with Miranda v. Arizona, including the Court's recent endorsement in Dickerson v. United States last Term. Looking back over this experience, it is plain that the Court has created a Miranda doctrine quite different from what it has said it was creating. I think the analytic structure in Dickerson supports this rethinking of Miranda. To connect the dots, I offer a new explanation for Miranda that permits us to reconcile Dickerson and the rest of the post-Miranda doctrine with the …
