The Grading, Diagnosis And Prognosis Of Canine Mast Cell Tumors, Saroj Chanyapat, Apichart Srifawattana, Sahaphon Rattanatan, Anudep Rungsipipat, Somporn Techangamsuwan, Roongroje Thanawongnuwech
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Forty-seven cutaneous mast cell tumors from dogs were pathologically classified into three grades numbered grade 1 to 3. Age, sex, breed, tumor location, and their histologic grading were tabulated. Luna’s method, Unna’s method, Giemsa, toluidine blue, and alcian blue/safranine stainings were applied in order to compare the diagnosis and prognosis of the tumors. The staining was positive for mast cell tumors by the different methods 64% (30/47), 68% (32/47), 70% (33/47), 72% (34/47), and 81% (38/47), respectively. The accuracy of the staining decreased when the mast cells became poorly differentiated. The alcian blue/safranine stain yielded the greatest number of positives: …

Comparative Studies Of Direct And Indirect Arterial Blood Pressure Measurements, By The Oscillometric Method, In Anesthetized Tigers, Soontorn Kiartmanakul, Atichat Brahmasa, Marissak Kalpravidh
The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
Direct and indirect arterial blood pressure measurements, by the oscillometric method, were carried out on twelve anesthetized healthy tigers during claw amputation. There were seven males and five females aged (mean ± SD) 4 ± 1 months and weighing (mean ± SD) 18 ± 11 kg. Anesthesia was induced using intramuscular ketamine, in conjunction with xylazine and atropine sulphate, and maintained by halothane inhalation. Heart rates, direct and indirect systolic, diastolic and mean arterial blood pressures were measured at 5 min intervals using 3 oscillometric monitors. The measurem ent of direct arterial blood pressure was made at the dorsal metatarsal …

Civil War Book Review
'The moral equivalent of war'
War is fought on many fronts, only one of which is martial and even then is not self-interpreting. Disputes over the moral justification, philosophical meaning, and historical legacy of war prove just as contentious. Department of Radiology
Objective: Bilary stenting with endoprosthesis is a palliative procedure to relieve malignant biliary obstruction. Percutaneous transhepatic technique has been employed whenever endoscopic technique was not possible or had failed.SETTING: Angiography/intervention suite, department of radiology, Aga Khan University hospital, Karachi. Methods: We present retrospective analysis of 17 patients with malignant jaundice who were treated with percutaneous techniques after the endoscopic route had failed. Results: The success rate was 94% with placement of single plastic stent in 14 patients, double stents in 3 patients and self-expandable stent in one patient. The overall complication rate was 41% including sepsis, liver abscess, biloma formation, biliary leakage …

What Couples Say Works In Domestic Violence Therapy, Jodi R. Allen, Sally St.George
The Qualitative Report
This ethnographic study adds to our professional knowledge about the effectiveness of domestic violence counseling. We learned from couples who had been court referred for domestic violence counseling what they found to be most effective in their therapy. The study was conducted by a student practitioner-researcher. The inquiry is written in an open manner and details the procedural steps, discusses trustworthiness specific to the inquiry, and includes reflections from the authors.

"She Even Walked The Dog": The Roles Of Relational Context And Goal-Setting In A Welfare To Work Program, Lynne A. Kellner, David Haddad, Ann G. Forcier
The Qualitative Report
This report summarizes an evaluation of the effectiveness of a welfare-to-work program that is operated by the Montachusett Opportunity Council (MOC) in Central Massachusetts. The study looks at how effective the program was in helping clients achieve goals towards self-sufficiency and tries to understand the particulars of the trusting relationships between staff and clients that provided the base from which they worked to address multiple concerns impeding family financial self-sufficiency.

Let's Get Personal: Exploring The Professional Persona In Health Care, Terry Maccormack
The Qualitative Report
This paper describes how a group of counselors and counseling lecturers at a rural university in New South Wales, Australia, initiated an exploration of their personal experiences as health care providers using an innovative research approach in which they engaged in a series of open, tape-recorded conversations with one another about their work. Their method also included transcribing and analyzing their narratives in a search for underlying themes in the thoughts and feelings that they shared. The intent behind their project was to find a way to voice how health care providers are affected by their work, and in so …
Development Of An Integrated Photonic Sensor For Monitoring Hazardous Organics, Dianhong Luo
Development Of An Integrated Photonic Sensor For Monitoring Hazardous Organics, Dianhong Luo
Dissertations
In this study, an integrated photonic sensor has been designed and fabricated for the purpose of monitoring hazardous organics in the environment. The operation of the sensor is based on the principles of the Mach-Zehnder interferometry. The sensor consists of a patterned waveguide structure made of phosphosilicate core and silica cladding. LPCVD processes were developed to produce undoped cladding and doped core silicon dioxide films. Diethylsilane (DES), Trimethylphosphite (TMP) and oxygen were used as the precursors for the deposition process. The effects of the O2/DES ratio and deposition temperature on the properties Of SiO2 films were investigated. …

Integration Of E-Business Strategy For Multi-Lifecycle Production Systems, Yanchun Luo
Dissertations
Internet use has grown exponentially on the last few years becoming a global communication and business resource. Internet-based business, or e-Business will truly affect every sector of the economy in ways that today we can only imagine. The manufacturing sector will be at the forefront of this change. This doctoral dissertation provides a scientific framework and a set of novel decision support tools for evaluating, modeling, and optimizing the overall performance of e-Business integrated multi-lifecycle production systems. The characteristics of this framework include environmental lifecycle study, environmental performance metrics, hyper-network model of integrated e-supply chain networks, fuzzy multi-objective optimization method, …
Detection Of Vapor Phase Mercury Species By Laser Fluorescence Methods, Xiaomei Tong
Detection Of Vapor Phase Mercury Species By Laser Fluorescence Methods, Xiaomei Tong
Dissertations
Elemental and compound mercury are often both volatile and air stable. Several mercury species emissions have been identified in off-gases from industrial processes. The high toxicity of mercury species and the presence of mercury species in municipal waste and coal have prompted a demand for a cost-effective, accurate, and rugged technique for real-time, continuous detection of mercury species vapors. Real-time, continuous emission measurements are important for process control, monitoring, and remediation. At present, there is no commercial continuous emission monitoring (CEM) technique or instrumentation to reliably monitor volatile mercury species emissions from industrial stacks. Conventional measurement methods, such as cold …

Intermittent Noise Sampling And Control Strategies In The Hospital Environment, Rosarito M. Guerrero
Intermittent Noise Sampling And Control Strategies In The Hospital Environment, Rosarito M. Guerrero
Theses
Noise in the hospital environment can have negative effects on both patients and hospital staff. Unwanted noise can be disturbing and often annoying thus, interfering with patients' sleep and obstructing work performance of the hospital staff. A research study was conducted in the hospital unit to identify and develop methods of intervention for intermittent noise and their source. Routine staff work activity generated noise levels above EPA hospital noise recommendations. A sound level meter and video camera was used to capture noise between the work-shifts. The video camera captured digital readings generated by the sound level meter which, helped identify …
