The Effect Of Agents On Hiv1-Ltr, Anthony Mullins Jan 2001

The Effect Of Agents On Hiv1-Ltr, Anthony Mullins

Honors Capstones

The goal of these experiments is to determine the relative effects of various agents (Ptpt dinucleotide, lutein, and vitamin C) on the activity of long terminal repeat (LTR) in HIV 1 infected cells (HIV LTR) in both control and UV exposed cells. It is known that the LTR is important in transcription and therefore viral replication. A HeLa cell line transfected with a plasmid that has the HTV-LTR and an E. coli chloranphenicol acetyl transferase (CAT) reporter gene was used. The agents were applied and then the amount of CAT activity was measured doing a CAT assay. The more CAT …

Recreation Programming At Resorts: Why?, John Crossley Jan 2001

Recreation Programming At Resorts: Why?, John Crossley

Visions in Leisure and Business

Recreation programming is becoming an important part of the resort industry. Recreation programs can help resort differentiate their product from competitors and in the process gain loyal repeat customers and/or customers eager to recommend the resort to friends. Resort recreation programs may be offered as the primary feature of the resort, as a supporting amenity, or as a revenue-generating amenity, although these categories are not mutually exclusive. Recreation may also be provided through a "facilitating" approach that helps the guests gain the benefits they seek, even though the resort does not directly provide the service.

Coming into the ninth grade, Jon Porges was admittedly "a shy guy" who had a learning disability and who had never volunteered in his life, but when he sat down in freshman English class at Waterford High School in Waterford, Connecticut, in 1996, a slow transformation - life a cocoon becoming a butterfly - took place.

Service Learning: Making The Camp Connection, Joel S. Garavaglia-Maiorano, Joel Pile Jan 2001

Service Learning: Making The Camp Connection, Joel S. Garavaglia-Maiorano, Joel Pile

School K-12

Service learning, today's buzzword for education through service, is as diverse as are camp programs in our nation. From providing environmental education to tutoring to feeding the homeless, it is both a method and a philosophy. Programming for service opportunities in today's camps offers a variety of options, from short-term experiences to a fully integrated curriculum that links action and reflection. Service learning, therefore, may be best understood as a method to encourage campers to act, reflect, develop, and learn through community-organized service that connects the needs of a community with the knowledge and experience of campers.

Introduction: Fear And Loathing Of Evolutionary Psychology In The Social Sciences, Daniel Leger, Alan Kamil, Jeffrey French

Psychology Faculty Publications

When one looks at the intellectual landscape of the modern university, at the scholarly and scientific interests of its faculty, the panorama is seamless. There are no discontinuities. The interests of physicists transmogrify into those of chemists, those of chemists into those of biologists, and so on. The lines, the divisions, between departments have been created out of administrative, not intellectual, necessity.
