In Vitro Antibacterial Activities Of Tilmicosin And Cefquinome Alone Or In Combination Against Certain Poultry Pathogens, Seyyal Ak, Oya Keleş, Tülay Bakirel

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

The antimicrobial activities of cefquinome and tilmicosin were determined in vitro against P. multocida and O. rhinotracheale of poultry origin by serial broth macrodilution. Both antibiotics exhibited good in vitro antibacterial activity against the strains tested. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for cefquinome was 1.562 µg/ml and for tilmicosin was 0.78 µg/ml for both microorganisms. To investigate the effects of a combination of cefquinome and tilmicosin, the fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC) index was determined by checkerboard assay. The antimicrobial combination was additive against P. multocida (FIC=1) and indifferent against O. rhinotracheale (FIC=2).

Extinguishing Inheritance Rights: California Breaks New Ground In The Fight Against Elder Abuse But Fails To Build An Effective Foundation, Kymberleigh N. Korpus

UC Law Journal

This Note examines the elder abuse problem in the United States by describing: state responses to its "discovery" in the late 1970s as well as the debilitating reliance upon reporting; the currently available remedies and the hurdles to using those remedies; the ethical challenges to the states' primary abuse prevention tools, and the dramatic explosion in elder abuse that is already underway. Then, this Note describes American descent doctrines, and philosophies underlying exceptions to the doctrinal testamentary freedom and value-neutrality of intestate succession statutes. It proposes the Chinese behavior-based model of inheritance as an alternative inheritance scheme that, with its …

A Poor Measure Of The Wrong Thing: The Food Stamp Program's Quality Control System Discourages Participation By Working Families, Ed Bolen

UC Law Journal

This Note examines how the Food Stamp Program's quality control system has contributed to an unprecedented drop in the number of households receiving food stamps. Since the only practical measure of the program's effectiveness is the rate of error in distributing benefits, state administrators face tremendous pressure, in the form of fiscal sanctions from the federal government, to reduce errors. That emphasis has resulted in state policies designed to eliminate errors, but these state policies have had a harmful side-effect in discouraging, if not preventing, otherwise eligible households from participating in the program. This is due, in part, to the …
