China And The Globalization Of Ir Theory: Discussion Of 'Building International Relations Theory With Chinese Characteristics', William A. Callahan
China And The Globalization Of Ir Theory: Discussion Of 'Building International Relations Theory With Chinese Characteristics', William A. Callahan
Research Collection School of Social Sciences
This essay examines current developments in International Relations theory in China. First it comments on Song Xinning's essay, agreeing that IR theory in China is limited by ideology, the dominance of policy-oriented research, and the state. But rather than seeing culture ('IR theory with Chinese characteristics') as a problem that can be solved by a more scientific approach to IR theory, the essay argues that the scientism of realism and IPE has similar problems. Thus the essay switches from the universals of science to the contingency of interpretation to understand global politics, drawing on recent books which combine IPE with …

The Eufaula Mound: Contributions To The Spiro Focus, Kenneth G. Orr
The Eufaula Mound: Contributions To The Spiro Focus, Kenneth G. Orr
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
The main aim of the paper is the comparison of two archaeological sites, (1) the Eufaula site of McIntosh County, and (2) the Spiro site of Leflore County, Okla. Purpose of the comparison is to indicate the relationship between the 2 sites, thereby establishing a Spiro Focus, the ramifications and general affiliations of which will be suggested.
The thesis is based on original research coming out of my experience as Project Superintendent of various units of the Oklahoma WP A Project. The Project, sponsored by the university of Oklahoma and directed by Dr. F.E. Clements, has carried on large scale …
A Historical Perspective On Interdisciplinarity And Undergraduate Research In Honors Education, Julianna Chaszar
A Historical Perspective On Interdisciplinarity And Undergraduate Research In Honors Education, Julianna Chaszar
Innovations in Undergraduate Research and Honors Education: Proceedings of the Second Schreyer National Conference 2001
Honors education and curricular innovations have gone hand in hand since the first honors courses appeared in the 1920s. Undergraduate research and interdisciplinary studies are among the approaches that honors programs have adopted to further learning among their students. Both approaches provide students with opportunities to experience how knowledge is produced. Recent thinking on knowledge production, including the idea of "transdisciplinarity," parallels trends on campuses and in the broader society. Honors faculty might continue their historic role of curricular leadership by examining these emerging issues with their students

If the first year of incorporation was the paving of the foundation for SMU, the second year was one of laying the first building blocks. For the university, this was a year for surging ahead – of exploration and adventure. With a sizeable student population, a faculty of international repute and two schools going on three, SMU is growing from strength to strength at an unbelievable rate. But beyond sheer numbers, I sense and see a spirit of fervour and adventure in the work of students, faculty and staff in every corner of this institution that we have founded. Our …

Introduction - Misogyny And Religion Under Analysis Masterplot And Counterthesis In Tension, Diane Jonte-Pace
Religious Studies
In this work, I expose the shadowy presence of this non-Oedipal counterthesis in the cultural texts on religion. My sources are not only Freud's four major "cultural texts," Totem and Taboo, The Future of an Illusion, Civilization and its Discontents, and Moses and Monotheism, but also some of his shorter writings related to religion and mythology ("Medusa's Head" and "The Theme of the Three Caskets," for example), and some of his writings which address religious themes and issues only indirectly (such as "Thoughts for the Times on War and Death" and The Interpretation of Dreams). All of these are "cultural …
