Abstract Chief Academic Officer (CAO) is the most common position title before assuming the presidency of a college or university. Results from a national survey are used to develop a profile of the CAO in each respective Carnegie institutional classification. The typical CAO in four-year institutions is Caucasian, male, 54 years old, and married. He holds a doctoral degree, most likely in humanities or social sciences, and has held the CAO position for 5 or fewer years. Most often, the CAO served as a Dean or Associate Dean in the previous position. All CAOs have classroom experience, but 3% have …

Method For Treating Ischemia, Peter R. Oeltgen, Mark S. Kindy, Paul D. Bishop Sep 2001

Method For Treating Ischemia, Peter R. Oeltgen, Mark S. Kindy, Paul D. Bishop

Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry Faculty Patents

A method for treating ischemia by administering deltorphins to a mammal. Deltorphin I SEQ ID NO:1, delntorphin II SEQ ID NO:2 or combinations of deltorphins I SEQ ID NO:1 and II SEQ ID NO:2 may be administered. A deltorphin concentration of about 0.5-20 mg/kg body weight, or alternatively a lower concentration of about 1-1000 μg/kg body weight of the mammal in a physiologically acceptable formulation is administered up to four hours after an ischemic episode. Deltorphins may also be administered prior to or concurrently with onset of ischemia. Cerebral or spinal cord ischemia or ischemic heart disease may be treated …

Poynting's Theorem And Luminal Total Energy Transport In Passive Dielectric Media, Scott Glasgow, Michael Ware, Justin Peatross Sep 2001

Poynting's Theorem And Luminal Total Energy Transport In Passive Dielectric Media, Scott Glasgow, Michael Ware, Justin Peatross

Faculty Publications

Without approximation the energy density in Poynting's theorem for the generally dispersive and passive dielectric medium is demonstrated to be a system total dynamical energy density. Thus the density in Poynting's theorem is a conserved form that by virtue of its positive definiteness prescribes important qualitative and quantitative features of the medium-field dynamics by rendering the system dynamically closed. This fully three-dimensional result, applicable to anisotropic and inhomogeneous media, is model independent, relying solely on the complex-analytic consequences of causality and passivity. As direct applications of this result, we show 1 that a causal medium responds to a virtual, instantaneous …
