Heterogeneity Within Animal Thioredoxin Reductases, Qi-An Sun, Francesca Zappacosta, Valentina M. Factor, Peter J. Wirth, Dolph L. Hatfield, Vadim N. Gladyshev

Vadim Gladyshev Publications

Animal thioredoxin reductases (TRs) are selenocysteine- containing flavoenzymes that utilize NADPH for reduction of thioredoxins and other protein and nonprotein substrates. Three types of mammalian TRs are known, with TR1 being a cytosolic enzyme, and TR3, a mitochondrial enzyme. Previously characterized TR1 and TR3 occurred as homodimers of 55–57-kDa subunits. We report here that TR1 isolated from mouse liver, mouse liver tumor, and a human T-cell line exhibited extensive heterogeneity as detected by electrophoretic, immunoblot, and mass spectrometry analyses. In particular, a 67-kDa band of TR1 was detected. Furthermore, a novel form of mouse TR1 cDNA encoding a 67-kDa selenoprotein …

Teratogen Update: Reproductive Risks Of Leflunomide (Arava); A Pyrimidine Synthesis Inhibitor: Counseling Women Taking Leflunomide Before Or During Pregnancy And Men Taking Leflunomide Who Are Contemplating Fathering A Child, Robert L. Brent

The Selected Works of Robert Brent

Arava™ (leflunomide) is a pyrimidine synthesis inhibitor used in the treatment of active rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The chemical name for leflunomide is N- (4’-trifluoromethylphenyl)-5-methylisoxazole-4-carboxamide. Because the drug has been successful in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), it is being widely prescribed. In spite of the clear warning that the drug should not be prescribed for pregnant women, approximately 30 women have become pregnant while taking leflunomide as of December 1999. This commentary was prepared to aid teratology counselors and genetic counselors that might be contacted by physicians or patients about the risk of leflunomide exposure during pregnancy. Before the …

Implementing An Icc Printer Profile Visualization Software, Stone Xianfeng Zhao Feb 2001

Implementing An Icc Printer Profile Visualization Software, Stone Xianfeng Zhao

Theses

Device color gamut plays a crucial role in ICC-based color management systems. Accurately visualizing a device's gamut boundary is important in the analysis of color conversion and gamut mapping. ICC profiles contain all the information which can be used to better understand the capabilities of the device. This thesis project has implemented a printer profile visualization software. The project uses A2B 1 tag in a printer profile as gamut data source, then renders gamut of device the profile represents in CIELAB space with a convex hull algorithm. Gamut can be viewed interactively from any view points. The software also gets …

A Strategic Marketing Analysis Of The Western Australian Olive Industry, Francis D'Emden

Horticulture published reports

A recent survey of Western Australian olive growers has revealed the rapid expansion of the State's Olive Industry, with at least 1.7 million olive trees to be planted in the next two to four years in Western Australia. NSW and SA are currently the dominant producers with around 64% of olive trees planted in those States.

This analysis concentrates on the olive oil market, as most groves have been planted to varieties suited to olive oil production. Approximately 4% of trees are table varieties, most of which have been planted amongst groves of predominantly oil or dual-purpose varieties.
