The 1998 Minnesota Legislation For The Prevention Of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome: A Policy Analysis, Mary J. Arfmann Jun 2001

The 1998 Minnesota Legislation For The Prevention Of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome: A Policy Analysis, Mary J. Arfmann

Theses and Graduate Projects

This study is an analysis of the 1998 prevention legislation in Minnesota. Interview questions were sent to the identified authors of the legislation, opponents, and selected county social service agencies. The policy framework authored by Karger and Stoesz (1998) was used to construct the interview questions. The questions were used to gather the data needed for the analysis.

The findings from the analysis suggested that there was overall support for the concept of prevention efforts but there was confusion, misunderstandings, and lack of consistent and uniform training and implementation of the legislation at the time of data collection. Evidence from …

Information Technology Diffusion Among Businesses In Nebraska: What Does It Mean For The Future?, John C. Allen Jun 2001

Information Technology Diffusion Among Businesses In Nebraska: What Does It Mean For The Future?, John C. Allen

Cornhusker Economics

In the past decade, there has been a convergence of computer and telephone technologies that has created the Internet, arguably the most rapidly embraced technology in history. Using a benchmark of rapid diffusion as the time required to reach 50 million users, the public Internet, which took four years to reach 50 million users, is spreading more rapidly than radio (38 years), the personal computer (18 years), television (13 years) or any other modern technology. The result has been that the Internet has already reached “mass market” status ( Burgess, 1999).

The gene sequence for ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco) large subunit (LS)εN-methyltansferase (protein methylase III or Rubisco LSMT) from a plant which has a des(methyl) lysyl residue in the LS is disclosed. In addition, the full-length cDNA clones for Rubisco LSMT are disclosed. Transgenic plants and methods of producing same which have the Rubisco LSMT gene inserted into the DNA are also provided. Further, methods of inactivating the enzymatic activity of Rubisco LSMT are also disclosed.

A Search For Peace, Kami Horton Jun 2001

A Search For Peace, Kami Horton

Dissertations and Theses

This is a creative thesis on a personal experiences working for the European peace movement. It reflects the parallel efforts of working for personal and shared peace in order to contribute to both,

After several years as a reporter, I became disenchanted with my life choices and became an intern with the Catholic peace organization Pax Christi International in Belgium. It was a transition that proved both challenging and rewarding.

While I was discovering the physical peace work through Pax Christi I was also embarking on an inner journey to find personal peace with my decisions and myself.

This is …

Importance Of Bacterial Decomposition And Carrion Substrate To Foraging Brown Treesnakes, S.M. Jojola-Elverum, J.A. Shivik, L. Clark Jun 2001

Importance Of Bacterial Decomposition And Carrion Substrate To Foraging Brown Treesnakes, S.M. Jojola-Elverum, J.A. Shivik, L. Clark

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

Brown treesnakes are an invasive species to the island of Guam that have caused extensive ecological and economic damage. Efforts to control the snake population have included trapping using live mouse lures, but for logistical and economic reasons a synthetic lure is needed. When searching for live food, brown treesnakes use both visual and odor cues. However, when searching for carrion, odor cues are sufficient. Attempts to develop synthetic lures based on chemical reconstruction of the complex carrion odor have not succeeded. We provide evidence that a microbial–substrate interaction is important for bait take by brown treesnakes. Microbial cultures taken …
