How Life Marker Events Affect The Grieving Process Of Elderly Caregivers Who Have Lost Their Spouses: An Exploratory Study, Gayle E. Galarneau
Theses and Graduate Projects
This exploratory, descriptive, qualitative study examines how life marker events, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, affect the grieving process of elderly caregivers who have lost their spouses. The study looked at what feelings the participants remembered having on life marker event days during the self-defined periods of their bereavement. The purposive sample was chosen from clients of Senior Community Services. Four women between the ages of 75 and 85 who had lost their spouses not less than eighteen months and not over two years prior to the study being conducted participated in structured interviews. The interviews consisted of open-ended questions that helped …

The Clone Wars: The Growing Debate Over Federal Cloning Legislation, John Garvish
The Clone Wars: The Growing Debate Over Federal Cloning Legislation, John Garvish
Duke Law & Technology Review
As readers of science fiction are well aware, the term "clone" refers to asexually produced offspring, that is, offspring produced by a process of cell-division which does not begin with the union of two sex cells. A clone is the genetic twin of the cell donor. Propagation of plants by this method is, of course, commonplace, but mammalian reproduction in this fashion would indeed be a revolutionary accomplishment, with profound and disturbing implications.

Molecular Diversity, Structure And Domestication Of Grasses, Edward S. Buckler Iv, Jeffry M. Thornsberry, Stephen Kresovich
Faculty Publications
Over the last 10,000 years, crop domestication has been the single most important human cultural development. Grasses are prominent among these crops, and provide the vast majority of the world's food. Similar traits have been selected during the domestication and breeding of these critically important grasses, and since they share a similar complement of genes, the same set of genes may have been selected. Even though the process of domestication occurred over the same 5000 to 10,000 year period, the domesticated grasses have major differences in genome structure, diversity, and life history. Molecular investigations of grass domestication have succeeded in …

Amusement Park Crisis Management, Joe Costal
Amusement Park Crisis Management, Joe Costal
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis attempts to establish a benchmark for amusement park crisis management through the careful examination of two contrasting crisis response case studies.
The first study, a deadly fire at Six Flags Great Adventure, in Jackson Township, New Jersey, exemplifies the causes, components and effects of improper crisis planning. Analysis of the study closely examines all events leading to and resulting from the fire, with most content coming from the memories of professionals directly involved in the tragedy. Designations of the Six Flags case provided the basis of every amusement crisis plan written since.
The second study, a deadly boat …

Hobbit Sex And Sensuality In The Lord Of The Rings, Daniel Timmons
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature

Villainy In The Social Fantasies Of Carol Kendall, Donna R. White
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Looks at the interplay of social forces in Kendall’s fantasy trilogy and how conflict between good and evil is replaced by more realistic conflict between differing perspectives and solutions offered by tolerance and balance.

Chloropigment Distribution And Transport On The Inner Shelf Off Duck, North Carolina, Eurico J. D'Sa, Steven E. Lohrenz, James H. Churchill, Vernon L. Asper, John L. Largier, Albert J. Williams Iii

The distribution and movement of chloropigments (chlorophylls and associated degradation products) in the bottom boundary layer near Duck, North Carolina, were examined during July and August 1994. Time series of chloropigment fluorescence, current velocity, and surface wave properties were acquired from instruments mounted on a bottom tripod set at 20 m depth. These data were combined with moored current meter measurements, meteorological data, and shipboard surveys in a comparative assessment of physical processes and chloropigment distribution over a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. Two dominant scales of chloropigment variation were observed. On numerous occasions, small-scale (order m) structure …
Design And Preliminary Test On The Integration Of Weather Data In Ecdis For Marine Navigation, Shwu-Jing Chang
Design And Preliminary Test On The Integration Of Weather Data In Ecdis For Marine Navigation, Shwu-Jing Chang
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
The incorporation of marine weather information into Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) has become a major issue common to international organizations such as IMO, IHO, and WMO. It is believed that this will further enhance the effectiveness of ECDIS as a tool of decision support to mariners for safe and efficient navigation. This paper first identifies essential items of marine weather information to be integrated into ECDIS. The data structure, formats, and symbology for the display and updating of weather data in ECDIS are then proposed according to related international standards. Potential use of weather data in ECDIS …
